Miss Kitty is a southern belle just ready to make her big debut at her cotillion. Her grandfather, Big Daddy Scratch, was the master of the sprawling tannis root plantation “Temptation,” before he mysteriously disappeared, leaving Miss Kitty to fend off relatives, creditors and lawyers all by herself. She’s a spoiled Georgia peach but she’s got some hints of steel magnolia in her, so she might come out on top.
I've mentioned before how I’ve wanted to do a story set in a grotesque Antebellum south version of Hell. I was trying to come up with a costume for Kitty that she could wear later in her adventure, when it wouldn't make sense for her to be wearing a giant Scarlet O'Hara ballgown. I suppose she could just be running around in bloomers, but that doesn't seem like her style. I ended up doodling her in an outfit that's more... well, you know every movie that's targetted at white people but that takes place in the civil rights era south? You know how they always portray it as if EVERY white person was totally down with equality EXCEPT THAT ONE BITCH. There's always one snooty lady, usually the queen bee of THE WOMEN'S SOMETHING OR OTHER SOCIETY, who's all aghast at black people trying to vote and she's going to complain to the lietenent governor or something. Lietenent governors also seem to be a big thing in the south in the 60s. Like, you never meet a governor but every state seems to have about 50 lietenent governors who appear at parties just to get haranged by DAR harpies. Seriously, these films would have you believe that the only thing holding back full equality was THAT ONE WOMAN. Anyway, Kitty's look here is sort of based on some of the outfits I've seen in those films, although, of course, Kitty is fatter.
Listening to some southerny gothicy music to get in the mood, and this was the song that inspired Kitty: Didn't Leave Nobody but the Baby (O Brother Where Art thou soundrack) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsS3E_rNcis
