The line between Casablanca and Dakar was the most dangerous part of the line Toulouse-Dakar and, later, Toulouse-Rio Recife done by the Companie Latécoère and later by the Companie Générale Aéropostale.
Those travels were done by some Salmson 2, some Breguet 14 and by some Dewoitine 333. This line had some stops which are very famous like Cape Juby, whose Antoine de Saint-Exupery were the chief of station during 18 months, Villa Cisneros, Port-Etienne, Saint-Louis or Agadir.
During the time where the line were done by the Salmson 2 and by the Breguet 14, the company has counted its dead, that was on of the deadliest line of the world, an engine failure and the pilot had to land in the desert, if he survived to the landing, he had to wish that the other pilots of the company found them before the moorish do it. If the crew were captured by the Moorish, they were make as hostage and were trade to the Aéropostale in exchange of gold, money, weapons and other thing that could have any value.
We can remember of the story which happened the 11th November 1926 where Henri Érable, Léopold Gourp, Pintado and their interpreter were victims of an engine failure in the full middle of the way at 22 days of walk of Cape Juby.
The first plane, the one of Gourp and of his interpreter had landed in the desert due to a mechanic problem, there were sand in the jet, Gourp made understand to Érable to continue his way to Cape Juby, his problem was not several. Érable wasn't very confidant in the fact to let alone Gourp and the interpretor and did an about-turn after few minutes and has landed next of the other plane but unfortunately, he broke his landing gear and hit the wing of the other aeroplane, the both biplanes were inoperable. Attracted by the passage of the aeroplane of Érable, a group of Moorish came on the place of the landings, they had weapons but not the four aviators who were captured easily.
The moorish had asked to the three aviators to walk in front of them, what they did, but the moorish had opened the fire, Érable and Pintado were killed under the bullets, Gourp were wounded at the right haunch. Thanks to his interpreter who has convinced the moorish to let Gourp alive for exchange him later, Gourp still alive. He was transported on a camel cause he could not walk, after 22 days of walk, the moorish thought that he was dead and let him fall to the ground before to see that he was always alive, they let him, later in the same day, as dead near of Cape Juby where he was found by Edmond Lassale, another pilot of the Aéropostale. His injury infected by the gangrene, he was admitted at the hospital of Casablanca where he will die 3 days after.
The other pilots of the company had found the burned planes in the desert and some stands of hair from Pintado and Érable, the rest of their body were ate by the animals (scarabs, fennecs, hyenas, mongooses, caracals, etc...).
On this draw are present an inoperable Salmson 2, 2 flying Breguet 14 and a fennec fox from back.
