Myself, and many others along Sunset Road, waited patiently for the opportunity to photograph or watch the arrival of this incredibly rare plane!
Aircraft #29000 is one of two VC-25As in service with the US Air Force, and is the sister aircraft to #28000. Both were built in 1987, but weren't introduced into the Air Force until 1990. The aircraft are highly-modified 747-200Bs with General Electric CF6 engines. The interior design of the planes was done by Nancy Reagan, and that design is reminiscent of the airline American Southwest.
While the VC-25 has two main decks and a cargo area, like a regular Boeing 747, its 4,000 square feet (370 m²) of floor space has been reconfigured for presidential duties. Its lowest level is mostly cargo space, carrying luggage and the onboard food supply.
The main passenger area is on the second floor or main deck. There are three entrances on board, two on the lower and one on the main deck. Typically the president boards and deplanes from the front, main deck entrance via an airstair, while journalists and other passengers enter at the lower rear door. Facilities for the press and other passengers are configured like an ordinary airliner's first-class cabin.
As for the Vegas visit, President Obama opened up a campaign for his executive actions on immigration on Friday as he told an audience of mostly Latino students at a high school rally that Congress had to revamp what he called the nation’s broken immigration system.
