November nights remind me of times gone by;
When I stopped to count the stars in the sky,
And I didn’t worry under the weight of tomorrow,
Or fret about paying interest on the time I borrow.
It all started with curiosity and good intention;
Doing things for the merit and not the mention.
And arguments were out of misunderstanding,
instead of for the sake of dissension
Now back to back dusk and dawn without slumber,
Back bent by the burdens that encumber;
In shackles of debt I bear the responsibility
to only use my time efficiently;
We started down this road with good intentions,
But we compromised. Lapsed ethics, moral suspensions -
We said the ends would justify the means,
and got caught in a trap of eternal extensions
Our abstracts and introductions speak of solutions;
That the future we wanted is in the conclusions,
But no amount of citations can clarify,
The price of the truth we sought to buy.
