so basically just retracing over the original image via a different layer. what i've been doing but yours looks alot better

Oh no, no. MuscleWolf gives me a sketch. I scan it, add it in as a "layer" in photoshop, then I create around the drawing he gave me, making sure the line thicknesses vary and they flow differently.
