I did an experiment to illustrate the meekness and strengths of both traditional inking and digital inking.
what I did was do the little pic in pencil and scan it, then I inked it with both techniques.
I tryed to do as little photoshopping to the traditional lines just to really show the weakness VS strength.
Now the Traditional one seems to have bolder lines and fallow a more pleasing shape to me while the digital seems to be much cleaner and more professional looking.
Here's a larger version to really see what's going on

I know ^_^ I have tryed that, it takes forever.
and alas, I cant afford photoshop, so I use a freewear program called "Art Weaver" my inking corections a teadous, or impossible.
I also use "Gimp", but it is sligtly more difficult to utalize. (also freewear)
unlike artweaver, gimp has that handy pen tool. most people are afraid to use it because it is difficult. but once you get use to it, everything is cake.

I use photoshop C3 for inking, I have heard many people suggest Open Canvas but it isn't able to do many of the things photoshop can with layers and such.
The main reason I like inking with photoshop is because it adjusts the line weight with how hard you press on the pen, while Open canvas only adjusts the opacity depending on how hard you push on the pen.

I've tryed Artrage before (Yah it was before I had a tablet) and I've seen the stuff you've done with it and I have never been able to get to your level with it, one thing I've never really liked about it is it doesn't have layers
It may have been a weird version of Artrage or something but I have just never really had good results with it

The current version of artrage (2.5) definitely has layers, blending modes, rulers, and a vast array of tools. The free version is the one that has no layers, but at $25.00 the paid version is a steal. If you were interested in trying it for that purpose, i would be more than happy to walk you through my typical inking workflow for it.
You know I am trying to act like a fan boy but it's all like "OMFG HE TALKING TO MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!"
*cough cough*
I would love to know your "work flow" with Artrage
Dose Staples sell Artrage or something like that or do you have to buy it online?
I have to wait for my next paycheck to but it but if you recommend it it must be a good program!

It's an excellent program! Part of why you can get it so cheap is because the most common way to get it is downloading it (they do have a boxed version, but that one is a little more to cover materials). After you do, they give you a DL link, and a serial number to enter into the program the first time you use it.
