This picture shows Mary wearing a black cocktail dress and elbow length black gloves, and sitting on top of a floating cushion like a 1940s torch singer.
The pose is based on a picture of 1940s/1950s Movie Star Ava Gardiner who was leaning against a piano from a publicity photo for one of her films that was used as the cover of her autobiography that was published shortly after her death, which I'd at one time own and read. In fact, the outfit that Mary is wearing in the illo was what Ms. Gardiner was wearing in the photo. I'd just wished I'd remembered the name of the film the phot was used for.

It was raining in the city by the bay. A hard rain, hard enough to wash the slime of corruption into the sewers, but only until it rose again - if it didn't, I'd be out of a job. I was expecting a quiet day, but when I entered my office she was waiting for me. Tight dress, sultry eyes and a body men would kill for. Dame was trouble, plain and simple. And trouble is a private eye's business...
