Now realising (thoe not understanding) whats happening all he can do is stare at his new hoofed hands while the fur spreads further his face pushing into a new muzzle while the new antlers continue to grow, and that aint the only thing growing.....

Nice sequence so far and you probably win the first posted caribou tf in the approaching holiday season flood (no different from rabbits at Easter and sharks at Shark Week though).
Also perhaps you're going to put a unique spin on the end form but caribou/reindeer are cervines not bovines. If nothing else a way to remember which is which is bovines have horns that grow continuously, cervines have antlers that are shed each year. (is this going to earn me tf into something not cool for mentioning it?)

The European and Siberian subspecies (traditional reindeer) are fairly small. Since the legend was adopted in North America you usually always see the North American subspecies (caribou) used which is significantly larger and heavier than the European and Siberian. They are a neat species- I did a presentation over reindeer/caribou in my range management class in college.
