Raza Ibrahil is the son of a former Hoenn regional champion and world champion trainer. Battling has been a tradition in his family for generations, and he and his twin brother Kalim were trained since they were very young to carry it on.
Throughout school the two fought as a team, developing their own styles. Where Kalim studied several martial arts forms and came to specialize in hand to hand combat, Raza turned his specialty to ranged combat. Raza has always held a silent resentment for the fact that his brother always seemed to get the glory for their mutual victories, but has held his tongue out of a sense of family loyalty.
The two entered Hoenn's prestigious Three Regis Combat Academy as a team as well but soon found the need to expand into a four 'mon team, adding fellow ponytas Kristoff Feurhaffe and Dawn Evans. They named their team Team Flashfire after the ability that they all shared, but quickly came to be called Team One Trick as an insult. Though initially angered by this insult, Kalim decided to formally change the team's name, so that when they defeated their enemies, it would only serve to shame those who were mocking them.
Following several scandals and administrative disasters at the academy Raza's father decided to transfer his sons to the Poke-Combat Academy of Higher Learning in the Kanto region, convincing the parents of their teammates to do the same. Raza was not pleased by this decision. He had several friends at the school and a steady girlfriend that he was quite close to and did not want to leave, especially with just over a year to go. But his objections were overruled, and he was sent off to Viridian City with his brother.
Raza trains and fights diligently with the rest of his team at the new school, but does bear some bitterness about leaving his old one as well as his brother's somewhat egotistical nature. He tries to be outgoing and make new friends but is somewhat stubborn about doing so, not wanting to fully acknowledge leaving the old ones. His relationship with his girlfriend back in Hoenn is starting to strain as well. In a battle Raza prefers to keep his distance, blasting away with powerful ranged attacks, but he's far from helpless in close combat, having more than enough training to hold his own until he can re-establish his range advantage.
