Well, I've haven't posted any new parts of this story for quite a while. I've been quite busy with other projects and personal challenges. In fact, I'm about to do one of my first requests… I don't think that I'll do them often, but hey, at least it's a challenge. Plus it's going to be a Yugioh short story, so how hard can it be?
But back to this… As usual, (as if you didn't already know) this is the seventh chapter of the story Raider's Steel continuing from where this ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14147294/ ) left off. please enjoy this very touching chapter of Raider's Steel.
Ch. 7 Brotherly (Or How Raider Got his Name. Part 3 & Finale)
The Kecleon pair carried the baby Riolu back to his home, only to run into Dimitree. The Zorua had just gotten back himself, but he was not too happy to see his brother being brought home by the twins. It would mean that he had raided their shop, again. That he would have to lie to Mama, yet again.
“Afternoon Dimitree,” the pair announced their arrival, “back from school?”
“Yeah…,” Dimitree didn’t look well, “what are you two doing here?”
“Seems like your little brother,” the red Kecleon started to explain.
“Got away from the sitter,” finished the blue one.
“Again,” they stated together. This would be the forth time this week alone, not that the Kecleon really minded. They loved having the curious little guy around. It was cute.
“Well, thanks for bringing him back home, again,” Dimitree glared at his little brother with the last word. The small Riolu crossed is arms and refused to look in his brother’s face. Dimitree looked up at the adults, “did he take anything today?”
“Nope,” stated the first Kecleon.
“You’re gonna tell on him?”
“Not today,” stated the other.
“He was a good boy today,” they stated together once more, “weren’t you Raider?”
The Riolu cringed at his name. The pair had suggested the foal title to Mama right after the incident with Pobon. He hated that name, but it stuck. It wasn’t that it reminded him that he was considered as a thief by the entire community, (which he learned was dubbed as the Bowhive Base). It wasn’t even the fact that it wasn’t even close to his real name. It was the fact that it was a constant reminder that, despite all his “raids”, he had yet to locate where the Kecleon brothers were hiding his precious Steel. Along with the rest of his memories.
“Well, see ya same time tomorrow kits,” the blue Kecleon waved while the red one simply rubbed Raider’s head. When the pair were out of earshot, Dimitree finally let his brother have exactly what was coming to him.
“What is wrong with you,” the fox scolded.
“You already know what’s wrong,” Raider snapped back, “I have to find Steel, or else he’ll die and I’ll never be myself again!”
“You’ve already searched their shop top to bottom,” Dimitree frowned as he entered the doorway leading to their home, “face it, he’s just not there.”
“Yes he is,” Raider stomped, his young body getting the better of him, “I know he is. I can just feel him calling for me to-”
“Hello sweetheart,” stated the lovestruck Wartortle that was waiting inside, “I’ve been waiting for you to get back…”
“Can you please undo her infatuation with you,” Dimitree was genuinely concerned about how often his brother had been abusing his Attract attack.
“Believe me, I would if I could,” Raider blushed as the water turtle gripped him in a big hug and a wet kiss on the cheek. It was never a pleasant experience for the Riolu.
“I’ll love you forever and-,” something in the babysitter’s head just popped, as if right on cue, “what was I doing?”
“Right on time,” Dimitree mumbled.
“Oh Dimitree,” she tilted her head, “is it that late already?”
“Yes, Ms. Green,” Dimitree smiled, the name seemed inappropriate, but her full name was Seafoam Green. She was a sweet Pokémon to young ones.
“My where does the time go by,” Ms. Green didn’t really think about it, “I guess I should be going then.”
“Ok Ms. Green,” Dimitree headed for his side of the den. Raider watched as the Wartortle closed the door behind her. It wouldn’t be long before their mother returned as well. Might as well try to defuse the situation.
“Look, I’m sorry okay,” Raider spoke honestly, “I know it’s hard for you to lie.”
“I’m a Zorua,” Dimitree struck his bed with his hind legs, clearly agitated, “apparently we’re supposed to be good at deception.”
“Your aura, it’s… did something happen at school?”
“No,” Dimitree growled, kicking harder as he did so.
“Bullies again?”
“No,” Dimitree lied once more, but with a tad less anger in his voice. Something about his brother could not so easily be tricked. For now, Dimitree believed it to be because he used to be a human. Truthfully, it was due to a Riolu’s natural ability to sense Aura.
“What did they do this time,” trying not to let the foreign emotion get the better of him, Raider waltzed right up to his ‘older brother’ and sat down. They both knew that Dimitree needed to vent. If not, then he’d just keep stomping around until Mellon came home from the Dojo. Dimitree sighed as he circled his bed.
“We were asked what we wanted to be when we grew up and when I said I had applied to be on an Adventure Team…,” Dimitree frowned as he laid down, “The whole class made fun of me for still gnawing on sticks.”
“Well, you have been teething.”
“Apparently that’s something else I’m not supposed to be doing at 7 months,” Dimitree spat, “So I have to stop or I can’t be on a Mystery Dungeon Team? It’s not fair!”
“Well, sometimes life’s not fair,” Raider pulled at his gums, making quite a disgusting face as he did so, “do you know how much I miss eating solid food?”
“Oh sure, make this all about you,” Dimitree turned away, not least big amused.
“You’re right, it’s not about me,” Raider frowned, “If you want to be an Adventurer then do it. What’s important is that you don’t let them tell you who you are. Only you can decide that, not them.”
“Big talk coming from you.”
“At least I live by example,” Raider plopped flat on the ground, “You’re supposed to be the big brother here.”
“When will people just accept that I don’t wanna be grown up like that!”
“I didn’t say that they’d have to accept it,” Raider yawned, it was almost time for his body to take another nap. He didn’t want to, but fighting it was futile.
“At least…,” Dimitree spoke up after he calmed down a bit more, “you don’t judge me.”
“You can’t pick family,” Raider shrugged, “only choose to love them anyway.”
“Another human saying?”
“Maybe,” Raider crawled closer to his brother, “want to hear about them some more?”
“Always,” Dimitree smiled. While he was jealous of his brother’s position in their family structure, he never grew tired of hearing about the human world. Nothing felt quite so magical to the Zorua. That’s why he wanted to be an Adventurer, so that he can find the human world and see it for himself. As far as either of them knew, humans just didn’t exist anywhere else except in Tony’s memories. Still, the Riolu was more than happy to share while he still could.
For today, Raider was lucky that Pobon (or “Psycho Swine” as the pair would call him) was needed at one of the further away Mystery Dungeons. Still, Raider was constantly on guard. Pobon was welcome in their home, but the Riolu made certain that he’d disappear if the Grumpig ever got close. The only real place he felt the least bit safe was while he was in the twin’s store. Those two were far too powerful for Pobon to take head on in a fight. Even now as he fell asleep, spinning his tales of human life, he was worried that the Grumpig would be crashing in at any moment.
“Tony?”
“Yeah,” the Riolu was barely awake now, but smiled at the sound of his real name. It was nice that someone called him by it. At least someone would remember the real him.
“What was Damian like,” the Zorua tried not to look interested, just in case his brother was still awake enough.
“Why do you ask,” Raider sat up. Besides when they first met, Raider couldn’t remember a time that he even mentioned that particular name.
“Just curious why you never talk about him.”
“Well,” Raider tried to remember. He had a few memories from before the day he died, but never really thought about the people he was with, “I guess, he was a lot like you. He was a scaredy cat sometimes, but he… was honest to a fault. He cared what other people thought about him, but he wouldn’t change for them. And yet he was someone who’d never abandon you, no matter what stupid stuff you’ve dragged him into…”
“You miss him?”
“Of course,” Raider wrapped an arm around his brother’s neck, trying to be sweet, “He was like a brother to me.”
“So…,” Dimitree shimmered as he tried to put up the Clandestine Illusion. He did everything right this time, right down from the lack of tail to Damian’s eyes, “It’s no different now is it?”
“Dimitree,” Raider woke up fully now. He moved back as he stared at his disguised brother. He didn’t know how to react at the moment. Dimitree had never done this before and… something in the Riolu just felt all the more heavy.
“Tony,” Damian smiled, “Thank you for saving my life…”
The Riolu’s eyes widened a bit more as he stared at his friend. His body struggled to smile all on it’s own. He would have done so completely, if his mind didn’t remind him of the sad truth: this was just an illusion. This wasn’t real.
“Why…,” Tony closed his eyes, barely holding back his tears.
“Quit being a scaredy cat,” Damian huffed, “isn’t that what you used to tell me?”
“I know you don’t like me, but…,” Tony was failing at keeping his cheeks dry, “this is taking it too far.”
“I don’t hate you, Tony. You need to stop blaming yourself.”
“Dimitree! Why are you doing this to me!?!”
The illusion wavered, “you don’t like it?”
“Stop it… please,” Tony cried.
Dimitree immediately ceased his illusion. Tony expected to see the Zorua grinning from ear to ear from the cruel trick that he just pulled. Instead, Dimitree was frowning. He looked directly into his brother’s eyes, trying to figure out what went wrong. Tony didn’t notice any of this as his own tears blinded him. He couldn’t get himself to stop shaking, it felt as if every vein in his body was going to burst.
“Ton…,” Dimitree barely started to address Tony by name, “I just thought… I’m sorry.”
“It hurts,” Tony cried as he rubbed under his wrists. Dimitree didn’t know how to react to this. He honestly didn’t mean to hurt his brother, mentally or otherwise. He slowly walked up to lick away the Riolu’s tears. Tony’s body was too tired to fight him off.
“I’m sorry,” Dimitree spoke honestly enough, “I just didn’t want you to talk in your sleep anymore.”
“What…,” Tony finally peaked through his teary eyes, “what are… you talking about?”
“Mama said…,” Dimitree bit his lip, he did that when he wanted to tell something he knew he shouldn’t. Tony made a mental note that Dimitree actually decided to do it before saying anything this time. Those Black Gummis that Mama’s been giving him have really helped his maturity, even if he didn’t realize it himself.
“What Dimitree? What did Mama say,” Tony asked, while thinking, ‘and for that matter what did I say?’
“Mama said that you can never leave the Bowhive Base until you stopped talking in your sleep,” Dimitree frowned, “so I thought that-”
“Please don’t,” Tony snorted, rubbing his eyes, “I get it. You’re tired of being alone at school, right?”
Dimitree was shocked at his brother’s apparent ability to read his mind.
“I appreciate the attempt, but I can’t get over it, Dimi,” Tony shook his head as he laid himself down again, “especially when I know it’s just an illusion.”
“I didn’t think it would hurt to try,” Dimitree looked to the ground.
Tony stayed quiet for a bit longer before a fearful thought struck him, “So Mama knows too?”
“Knows what?”
“That I’m human,” Tony curled up tighter, not certain how he should feel.
“Of course not,” the Zorua shook his head, “she thinks that they’re that Honedge’s memories. That’s what everyone said back then.”
“Well, they’re wrong,” Tony kicked the air as he threw a mini-fit.
“I know,” Dimitree smiled, “I wouldn’t have learned so much about humans if it was just a memory or two.”
“I guess not,” Tony frowned a little, “we can’t let anyone else find out though… so…”
“So?”
“Can you… Turn into Damian for me. Please,” Tony turned his head to his brother, it was clear that he was about to cry again. The Zorua was taken aback by the request. After what happened before, he didn’t think that trying again would be a good idea. He wanted his brother to deal with his past, but now he was thinking that he might want to take…
Tony noticed that the Zorua was very quickly trying to hold back a laugh.
“Hey, what’s so funny,” Tony demanded.
“Nothing. Just a random joke. Sorry,” Dimitree blushed, “Sure I can do that, but not today. Mama will be home soon and you still haven’t had your nap yet.”
Tony puffed his cheeks at how Dimitree was being so weird to him now. Still, he resigned to it, “fine, but after you tell me what you think is so funny.”
“Oh, I was just thinking about how you might want to take… baby steps,” Dimitree stuck out his tongue before laughing profusely. Tony could do nothing but hit himself for even asking the stupid question to start with. And yet, it was kind of funny, considering the circumstances. He smiled as he finally laid down for his nap, “Tony?”
“Yeah,” the baby was getting cranky now.
“Never mind… I’ll ask later.” And with that… the two finally closed their eyes.
About an hour later, Mellon returned from her Dojo with more perk to her step then she had in quite some time. A couple of her students had mentioned quite the legend to her. Just imagine the surprise she had to find her little boys were napping together. She tried to be quiet for them. She failed in this endeavor as her Zorua stirred awake the moment the door had shut.
Dimitree was surprised to see Mama had returned. More specifically, he expected Tony to have woken him up with his yelling long before she got there. The Zorua turned to find that his brother was more than just fast asleep. The baby Riolu had somehow managed to grab Dimitree’s tail without him realizing it! He would have pulled it away, but Mama was just so darn… proud of him. Dimitree didn’t like it, but it did seem to keep Tony’s nightmares away, somehow.
“Dimitree,” Mama smiled as she settled down, “would you like to hear a story?”
“What kind of story?”
“One about knights,” Mama looked toward her sleeping kit, “and kings.”
Safe…
Tony safe. No, it is Raider now.
