The Siemens-Schuckert D.III, also know as SS D.III, was a german WWI biplan fighter built in 1918. It was a very performant aeroplane with a very good speed and a good ascentional speed but its first problem was the overheating, the engine Sh.III were overheating too often, the JG.II, the Geschwader at the one the majority of those aeroplanes were distributed, had exchange its SS D.III with the older Fokker Dr.I in May 1918. The 41 exemplars of SS D.III were sent back to the Siemens-Schuckert factories for some modifications; the engine were traded with a better variant, the Sh.IIIa, and the engine bonnet were opened for have a better cooling air and an enlarged rudder, this new variant were called D.IIIs. Those aircraft were built at 80 exemplars and were introduced in July 1918 as interceptor with home defense squadrons.
