I don't believe in ghosts (and generally in all things like that) and I don't think that the body is just a "receptacle for the soul." And the soul continues to live after the body dies.
I don't think that Donald believes it.
Therefore, in this picture, I didn't want to portray the coming of the ghost of his sister to him.
It is quite another.
Chris was really important for Donnie. And when one of us loses someone important, he needs a lot of time to recover and realise it. It's awful hard. That is why from time to time Donnie was almost inclined to believe that his sister isn't dead. That she's alive. And sometimes he even seemed to feel her near him.
That's what I wanted to portray - one of those painful moments when Donnie thought he could turn around and see her.
