This is a rendering by
Freelancer89 of the weapon featured in my story "Equalizer," found on the Spontoon Island website. It was originally drawn by the talented Mitch Marmel.
The weapon's chambered for 9mm (pistol round, but slightly more powder), 30 round magazine. At 2 feet 4 inches long and a loaded weight of 9 pounds, it's good for most anthros. The ejector port is on the top of the gun, with an adjustable deflector to keep the spend cartridge from flying in your face. The muzzle compensator comes off to fit a suppressor for covert Rain Island Army Union missions or Naval Syndicate boarding actions.

Charging handle's on top to the rear (just ahead of the buttplate).
Yes, it has a selector switch for semiautomatic and automatic fire.
Fairly cheap; Mastny's design called for several stamped parts (interestingly, the stock and pawgrips actually cost a bit more than the actual rifle (Moloch Chemicals' fibresin was still fairly new and therefore a teeny bit pricey, but they wanted something that wouldn't rot).
Yes, it has a safety.
I can foresee modifications to the weapon as it goes through its design history (from 9mm to 45-caliber in 1950; the inclusion of a grenade launcher in the 60s, etc).
