Oh this reminds me of my early fandom activity. When I first discovered the fandom at 15, I used to draw the cast from Metal Slug as anthros with big guns and bandanas. Did it all the time in high school!

Well there is that Kickstarter project Retroblazer, but I dont think it will get funding cause it's too niche.
I had ideas just like that and experimented alot in Game Maker but since I was young and inexperienced it never really got off the ground. I can likely pull off something like that with sprites but it would require time and dedication :P
