Thank you for posting a link Yogi! I've been looking for that meme reference for ages.
As sad as it is, I don't think the yellow dude (Arthur) actually killed him. Since everyone is hypothesizing about it I will add my own. (journal has longer more winded version just because I was tired and watched it six times.)
The entire mansion is an extension of Lewis and his and his final memories. Arthur probably didn't want to go to the dangerous place where Lewis found death because it's... well, dangerous. Instead of Lewis seeing his own death as an accident (slipping and plummeting to his death) he blamed it on his once good friend to find purpose to his death. Instilling his with possibly years of anger wanting revenge, on a guy who was there to see the tragedy, but not actually the cause.
I'm probably the only one that thinks and noticed the entire mansion disappearing after Lewis' soul finally left and I got way off topic.
