A scene in a college library. It is actually loosely based on a real campus built in the 1970s, Gardyne College in Dundee (built as a teacher training college) before it was taken over by Dundee College and extensively refurbished a few years ago. When I was 7 or 8 years old my dad used to take me for swimming lessons at the swimming pool there because policemen and staff were given discounts. When I was 16 my high school senior 'buddy' training day was held at this campus as well, and as such I got to see more of the interior.
The only original part of the campus that was retained was the P.E. block and swimming pool. Everywhere else was stripped out (including removal of the top floor) and rebuilt. It looks much nicer now, though it is sad when some cool architecture is gone.
The library section of Gardyne with it's slanting greenhouse style windows and coffered ceiling was finished in 1976. The ceiling in the picture I drew isn't based on what was in that library, instead it was based on what was in my High School's library instead. I have also including traits such as the bare brickwork (another 1970s architectural trait) and timber decor in places.
Here is some images of what Gardyne College's Library used to look like; http://www.urbanrealm.com/blogs/ind.....ansong?blog=16

Mmph. I suddenly realize that a lot of buildings that I remember from my childhood as shining and new and innovative have by this point either been "renovated" to something much less interesting, or are now old and decrepit and falling apart, if not actually demolished.
I checked out the house I grew up in on Google Street View recently, though -- we moved into it brand new in 1972 (I remember visiting it under construction!), and moved out in '76. It actually looks better now than when we moved out, at least from the street. Not surprising, really -- a house that sold for $120K in '78 must be worth a BUNCH these days.

A bit like my grandma's old house, and one that one of her friends used to live in. The friend's house was dark and dingy looking inside with a lot of old decor, but after it was put on the property market it had been extensively refurbished and looked so much brighter and newer!
And thanks :)
And thanks :)
Poured over a reference book on lab procedures for two hours. Hadn't balanced a chemical equation in ages and checked out a book to help. Returned that book then they were going to fine me for a late return when it was back on the shelf. Had things squared away in short order.
