These are some sketches I did in conjunction to the North Sea U-boat sketch I posted awhile ago. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1138033/ . The U-boat I want to portray in the final color piece will be a Type VIIC since it was one backbones of the Nazi's U-boat armada.
One of the most important things to remember when doing reference sketches is to be as honest with yourself whenever possible. If you make a mistake while creating the drawing either take the time to fix it or at least note the mistake somewhere in the sketch so you won't recreate it again in the final piece. You won't be doing yourself any favors by ignoring your mistakes. In the main ship study I took some wrong measurements that resulted in me making the hull too short in the front. Since I didn't correct it right there I made a note of it. I'll post some more studies of the boat later.

Watch "Das Boot". Its also just a movie set, but its highly accurate. Otherwise, travel to Laboe near Kiel in Germany. There is a Type VII C U-Boat on the shore.
There is also a TV-Production "The last Sub". The inside U-Boat, diving manuvers and everething else is real, but its unfortunally a Type XXI or XXIII. They found it in Poland.
