Oh they are cool. In NC they were only out for two months of the year, but a ton of fun to watch and chase! FYI in NC they are also know as Mayflies since they are most active in May. I caught a bunch of them and put them in a jar once, but they refused to light up. They only like to do so when they are trying to attract a mate. Males and females light up differently. Go figure.
