I have one of those, should really start practicing!

I have one as well which I bought last Sunday from the weekly souk. But it is somewhat different from darbuka I know; it produces less crisp sound(though maybe that’s because I have absolutely no idea how to play this properly), accompanied by buzzing from snares. And it seems that people here usually hold it upside down with their left hand, instead of placing it upon the lap, when playing it. Maybe it is a different instrument that just looks like darbuka.... After all, people call it with a different name, tabl. I wish I could learn how to play this properly.

i do love the sound it makes, i have a thing for drums, i also have a small onyx-skinned one, all i know is that it's nicknamed "Heart of Africa#, i was too young to remember the journey, it carries a stone inside, it's got quite the nice deep reverberating sound to it
