This is a rather large drawing I've been working on for over a year (!!!) and finally got the time to finish it over this week. I didn't record how much time I actually took to work on it, but I'm guessing that it's well over twenty-four hours of actual drawing.
It started as a pencil sketch, and then moved onto an ink-drawing. When I was done with all that hatching and cross-hatching I laid down quite a few washes of sepia paint, and then more washes of white paint to get the higher contrast I really wanted.
The inspiration comes from a world I'm building: I have this idea for an intelligent specie that evolves on a moon, a moon which orbits a gas giant and is nearly tidally-locked; an actual sun-rise would be a once or twice-in-a-lifetime event that is regarded as a nearly spiritual experience.
