Bombard-N95 Fire Support Mech.
A common Ballistics based fire support mech in service to the Hepplen Sovereignty Iron Guards. although a true second generation design, it may be considered outdated as the Sovereignty mechs are currently in their Third generation as well the recent arrival of the all new 4th generation designs which are currently in field testing. nonetheless the the Bombard fights alongside the the Hepplen main battle mechs the Spearhead Partisan and the Spetum. often behind the aforementioned mechs bringing it's twin autoloaded ThunderHive 20-tube Barrage M.M.L.S. through co-coordination between the Bombard and the forward MBM's.
Hepplen battle doctrine favours the use of powerful, direct fire weaponry over indirect artillery, the Bombard may be considered an oddity with it's ThunderHive MMLS weapon while many other mechs within the Hepplen vehicle pool uses lasers, gyrojet cannons, ion cannon and striker missiles which are all direct fire. another factor is that the Hepplen sovereignty often avoids or minimizes the use of ballistics due to the inherent danger of ammunition explosions caused by direct hits to internal missile magazines which can cripple the mech if under heavy, damaging fire. but it is engineered to minimize damage to the main body in the event of an ammunition explosion so the power core and pilot survive so that the mech will have a chance to retreat when crippled.
when faced with combat, it is capable of using four arm mounted Assault lasers to defend it's self. similar to the lasers found on main battle mechs and a machine gun turret located on the torso to deal with infantry.
a popular alternative variant is the Bombard Storm. trading it's ThunderHive MMLS for twin long-range Medium class Gyrojet Cannons, this variant is loses indirect firing capabilities for pounding direct fire as well as adhering to Hepplen combat doctrine. however due to it's nature it still suffers from ammunition explosion risk. but like the ThunderHive Varient, is engineered to prevent excessive damage in the event of an ammunition explosion.
