A long time ago in Japan, a little girl named Hoshi loved the stars. She would lay outside, stargazing, hours upon hours, bathing in their mysterious shine and wondering how the little firefly-like stars could stay in the sky for so long.
One night, when Hoshi was out stargazing, she cried from the view she witnessed - the stars were falling out of the sky, one after another, so fast, she was afraid there would be no more.
She ran inside, gathered some paper and a jar. She thought, for every star that falls, she'll make a paper star and place it in the jar! That entire night she was busy folding, and she ended up making 100 stars. Yet, they weren't enough.
The next night, there were only very few stars left in the sky. The sad sight drove her to ask for help - she called for every girl and boy in the village, and asked them to help her fold. That night, the kids folded 2.000 stars and placed them in jars.
Something magical happened when the 2.000th star was folded - the stars began reappearing in the sky, which made the little girls and boys very happy. Hoshi was incredibly happy about this event, and exclaimed: "These stars are lucky because of us. From now on, these paper stars will be called lucky stars."
She looked at the sky and said: "Whenever a lucky star is made, a falling star is saved."
All the kids remembered her words, and continued making stars throughout their lifetime, giving them to their loved ones as presents over time. It is said that they brought the falling stars so much luck, that the lucky stars ended up bringing luck to the ones making them."

A filled jar will grant you or the one you gifted it to a wish!
A friend asked me if I could explain to them how to make Lucky Stars, so I gladly complied and made a little thing out of it! <: I really love making these. I've filled several jars and gave them to relatives and friends before on occasions. They look really nice and I personally think their meaning is really sweet.
The list of possible meanings is probably inaccurate, since it mainly focuses on love and couples, and it is something that would be focused on anybody important in your life. But in the end, just think of your own meanings for amounts! c: Whatever number is special to you. Make one a day ever since you've known the other person, and give them a massive jar sometime! Personal meanings will always be more valuable! :p
Here's another very sweet story including Lucky Stars.
Sources were from all over tbh! I read the Hoshi story and re-told it in my own words however. Google it and you'll find different versions, I however could not find anything you could consider an original. Feel free to prove me wrong!

Yep! Found this way 3 weeks ago, I already have a jar full of raindow stars what's going to be shipped to my mate as a gift, haha.
I found out an origami paperis obviously the best. I bought a 70g/m2 paper and it's really great to fold the paper and make a star out of it.

Those are great as gifts, aren't they? <:
And I just found a block of paper with fancy pattern on them, so I bought that and cut it into stripes. :D Or I buy some pre-made strips off of eBay, though then chances are the stuff won't arrive, honestly. l3; though those look/fold best, actually.
