A little story I wrote for a couple of people, whose characters appear in this. It's a special thanks to Tamar and Jim for their recent collaboration between their characters and mine in the PCA, as well as for Kompy and Carlito's older standing collaboration with me. These are by no means my only--or even primary--collaborators, but they do rule. Never fear, I will continue to write other stories my other collaborators in the PCA. Thanks guys.

TRAINING SESSION

Cinnamon Swirl was rolling her wheelchair past one of the side-gyms, her leg still in a cast after breaking it in a battle with Aziz, and came to an abrupt halt when she heard voices. She rolled through the open door and into the gym, staring at the sight that greeted her. “Rene?” The fox turned at the sound of her voice.
“Cinnabon?” The vulpix panted, using his own special nickname for her. He was panting heavily, collapsing from exhaustion as he dropped to his knees and then to his belly on the floor. “...Please...” he begged in between pants as he turned his gaze over to his coaching team. “...can I take a break?”
A smirk crossing her cheeks, Rene's head coach—the PCA's assistant coach looked up. “Judges?” Tessa Ardillo del Relampago asked her two assistant coaches.
Zap Pikans snorted, crossing his arms. “The runts barely been running for half an hour! Let 'em sweat a bit more.” No surprise there, Tessa mused as she turned to her other assistant.
“Hmmm....Bro-sis can stop in half an hour,” Maggie said slowly as she pursed her break. “Or he can stop in ten if he uses da extra weights!” Zap looked at the little nine year-old magby and smirked.
“...I like that kid.”
Maggie put her hands on her hips and stared up at the raichu boldly. “Who are ya callin' a kid?” She demanded imperiously, proceeding to stick out her tongue. Zap stuck his out right back at her.
“Children.” Tessa said loudly, indicating both of them. “No arguing in front of the victim, er, vixen.” Rene looked up at Tessa from the floor and mustered what strength he had so he could glower at her. It wasn't very impressive. At all. Tessa chuckled, then noticed the flareon in the wheelchair. “Oh hey, sister-in-seats. What's up?”
“Oh, I was just helping Vince train some students. Apparently, I have a lot to learn in making students suffer, watching you three.” Cinny smirked. “Can I talk to the vulpix? Before you kill it?”
Tessa nodded. “Okay, we can take five.” Rene looked at Cinny with a grateful look. Then Tessa continued, “we can make it up by adding an extra half hour onto the end of our session.” Rene's face fell. The pachirisu waved. “See you in five, fluffbutt!”
Maggie snatched up her snack case. “Yay! Now I can have my super-sugar co-co bombs and juice box!” She reached in and took out a box of cereal.
“Hey, can I have the decoder ring in it?” Zap asked as he followed the girls.
“Nu-uh! It's mine!” Maggie insisted.
“No fair!” Zap complained. Tessa rolled her eyes, as well as her wheelchair, as they went out the back door as Maggie and Zap continued to argue about who would get the prize inside.
Cinny rolled her own wheelchair over and offered the fox a bottle of water. “You okay?”
So soaked with his own sweat that his fur felt glued to his body, Rene greedily grabbed the bottle and guzzled down the refreshing cold water. Panting as the bottle ran empty, he managed to gasp out, “Thanks.”
“Welcome, Rene.” Cinny giggled. “Like I said, I was just helping Vince out and when I rolled past her I heard the sounds of someone getting trained.”
“...Please tell me you're not here to join my coaching team.” Rene moaned as he clung to the sidebar of her wheelchair to prop himself up. Cinny patted his head.
“How did you get saddled with three of the toughest coaches imaginable anyway?” She asked, curious. “I know some assistants do some one on one, but I haven't seen three coaches gang up—I mean, teach—one student before.”
Rene moaned. “Long and incredibly stupid story, Cinnabon. First there was Tessa—she kicked me in the tails when I was feeling sorry for myself, and I mean that literally.” He rubbed his tush. “She just kinda became my personal trainer/coach. She's a genius in the creative uses of electricity, so she decided to help me get as creative when it came to fire. Now, I'm her official charge in the coaching program she's in. From what I understand, she even gets graded based on how well I improve my battling skills.” Cinny's nodded, appreciatively.
“Sounds like she's taking a lot of interest in you.”
“She's like the incredibly cool, big-chested electric squirrel sister I never had.” Rene smiled.
Cinny frowned. “But how did Zap start training you? From what I know of him—which, okay, isn't a lot—he doesn't even do that for his little brother.”
Rene rolled his eyes. He still wasn't fond of the big, muscular jock of a raichu—who was much smarter than he looked though Rene still felt that was not saying much—who had signed on under rather peculiar circumstances. Rene never cared for the big joke guys like Zap or Barrel—and made little secret of it. “I made a stupid remark....or series of remarks....to Zap when he was kinda strutting around once at a club. Then I tried talking to Nikki when she and him were trying to dance---” Cinny winced. “Yeah, it was not a smart thing to do. And since Nikki's a friend and had really impressed on Zap to leave me alone up until then, which I blew when I opened my trap. I felt I should apologize to him and Nicole, but Zap refused to accept my apology. The only way he WOULD accept it would be to was to face Zap in a one-on-one battle.” Cinny gaped at him.
“WHAT?! Zap's a senior! A good one! And you're um....”
“Not.” Rene finished blithely. “I know, believe me, I KNOW. But he wouldn't accept anything less! But the weird thing is, Zap said that if I did well enough, he would help train me!”
Cinny blinked. “...Did he say why?”
“When I asked, he only replied: 'You need toughing up powderpuff. I can't have my girls friends with push overs.' I don't expect to get anything more out of him.” Rene shrugged. “So, long story short: we battled, I managed to learn Quick Attack and landed a blow on his cheek. It was awesome....right up until Zap countered by planting his fist into my stomach, ending the match.”
The flareon winced. “Yeah, that woulda killed the moment of triumph all right.”
Rene continued, “But apparently, that had been enough for Zap to attach himself to my training sessions with Tessa.”
“And Maggie?”
Rene grinned. “Maggie's, Meghan DeCinder's little sister. She's cute and sweet, but she's a fierce trainer in her own right—she picked up enough from her sister, who runs the DeCinder family gym, to be a real terror. In addition to being part of the trainer triumvirate tormenting me, she also works with my girlfriend, Nicole Zuna.”
Cinny giggled. “She's that rare combination of plucky and adorable.”
“Yeah...I'm her favorite baby-sitter and 'brother-sister.',” Rene made the quotation marks with his fingers. Cinny smirked at the gesture. “Of course, that wins little mercy from her when it comes to training.” Rene continued. “There's a division of labor: Maggie works on my endurance; Zap focuses on increasing my raw strength; and Tessa, besides being in charge over all, works on strategy and tactics and whatever else she wants to do with me.”
There was a pause as Cinny mentally imagined what that “whatever else” Tessa might want to do with Rene ran through her head. She gave him a sideways look and giggled.
Rene looked confused at her until he mentally replayed that last thing he said in his head...then turned red in the face and swatted her head with his tails. “Hey! I didn't mean like THAT, you PERV!”
Cinny snerked as she was buffeted by large fuzzy tails. “Suuuuure you didn't.” She grinned, prompting Rene to give her a noogie.
The flareon flailed. “Aaah! No nooogies!”
“Too bad Cinnabon! Its noogie time!” The fox laughed as he noogied away.
Cinny wobbled and flailed. “No fair no fair! I can't escape cuz of my leg!!!”
“I tried going easy on Tessa the first time she challenged me to a fight because she was in a wheelchair. Never again.” He gave her one last noogie and let go.
Cinny panted and tried to get her hair back down. “So....three coaches, huh? What's it like?” Rene took on a pained look.
“Hard. VERY hard.” He sighed. “Tessa and Zap are REALLY hard trainers. Maggie too, but I can't tickle Tessa or Zap into giving me a break.” Cinny giggled at the mental image. Rene ignored it this time. “Tessa....she works me very hard, and I know she works herself even harder. She's tough, uncompromising, but encouraging too. Zap is more of the 'shout at, demean, and electrocute into getting them to follow along,' kinda coach.”
“Owch.” Cinny winced.
“Yeah....Zap's way of 'encouraging' me consists of bellowing at me and tossing a Thunder Shock my way....not that Tessa could resist giving me the occasional shock either, but Zap is a bit more generous with it.” Rene snorted. “And as a a side note: if you ever have more than one coach? NEVER try playing them off against one another! I tried that once....when Tessa and Zap found out what I was doing, they barged in on me in the locker room showers and jointly tried to electrocute me.” He winced. Cinny did too.
“Yikes. Fried fox. Steamed.” She said. “How're you coming along?”
“Well, I like to think I'm improving...I did when my last four battles.”
“Congrats!” She beamed as she hugged the vulpix around the waist. She blinked as she patted his stomach. “Wow, nice abs.”
The fox blushed. “H-hey!”
Cinny grinned as she poked him in the belly. “...Not ALL muscle yet, I see. And still ticklish too!” She grinned evilly, causing the vulpix to sigh in relief as he heard Zap's bellowing (a first time thing).
“VULPES! GET YOUR PUFFY BUTT OVER HERE BEFORE I GO OVER THERE AND KICK IT! YOU OWE ME ANOTHER TEN LAPS, WITH WEIGHTS!!!”
Rene shrugged helplessly at Cinny. “Yeah, well, there you have it. Thanks for getting me that break. I really needed it.” He mused her hair.
“Hee, anytime.” Cinny smiled. “Go back to work. I'll talk to Vince later. If I don't hear good things about your progress then I WILL join your coaching team!”
That made Rene give a weak chuckle...that only got weaker when he saw she wasn't entirely kidding. He gulped. “VULPES!” Zap bellowed again. “It's now TWENTY laps!”
Groaning, Rene ran over to Zap as Cinny smiled and wheeled her way out of the gym. That was fun.
