A birthday gift for
Maxi-Rover vis-a-vis her girlfriend, :shaneharper:. Several weeks worth of work and destroyed sleep schedules hath brought thee here... I already owe them for the tablet I drew this on. And collabing is so much fun!
As birthdays go, this one was pretty damn good from what I heard. Hope the passionfruit was delicious! God, now I want cake.
And thanks to Shane for her genius addendums! How often do I get to draw a big balled pet rat presenting a tattoo gun? And my sketches with their ugly cel-shaded Chiaroscuro, she sliced through it with her nice neutral planes of flat color. Just add some lit texture on top. It makes all the difference! Especially with her white maxi disco gown, I thought it would look cool on her... and I'm honestly just looking for a chance to use a viking skirt and metal bra. Those are so much fun. Plus the platter thing - I have almost a foot on both of them, it took some brainstorming to figure out how to compose that.
I have no better explanation for those colors than "1991 said so." It befits the birthday gals. I've a couple of alternate versions of this picture I'd love to make... But hey, all bets are off!
Albums listened to during the making of: "The Who By Numbers" by the Who, "Powerslave" by Iron Maiden, Renata Tebaldi's "Suor Angelica" by Puccini, "Camelot" Original Broadway Cast, "Sailin' Shoes" by Little Feat, The second LP of the Clash's "Sandinista," "Selling England By the Pound" and "A Trick of the Tail" by Genesis. What madness is the king pursuing tonight?

The rat belongs to them, both intellectually and in real life...

AHH whoops, I never even commented! I've been gushing about this picture since my birthday, such a freakin awesome surprise! Everyone looks so... so absolutely fabulous! (You especially! SO STOIC AND THAT FLOWY HAIR AH) And every tiny detail is was just so much fun to explore. AHH your lineart/sketches, they blow my mind! The cake was AMAZING, btw C: I need to get reading about that darn tattoo machine so I don't end up murdering anyone trying to use it..
Such an awesome birthday this year, especially thanks to you two! WHEE, i love it :D

I was going for Frazettaesque barbarian queen - from your comment, it sounds like I've succeeded. (blushes) I usually have to fight the urge to add chicken fat to the picture, and stuff like storybooks or gift art that you stare at and into for hours, that's just a chance to run hog wild. <3
Honestly, my favorite part of this whole picture in retrospect is Ale's foot. Just some bent curved lines and it's a foot. But yeah - when you deal with ellibulent muscle tension or lifting heavy loads, you get a chance to warp your hands beyond human recognition and turn them into spatulas or sledgehammers or spectral forms... that's my favorite part of anything is drawing really weird Spümcø hands. The THOUGHT of that cake sends my hands into contorted mockeries of a human hand. I'd say they work!
And yeah, that's one of those things you read the instruction manual on. "Step one: Not in the eye. Really, what were you thinking, Ted?" You can draw your mom's terrible timeline of your art, by your own artsy hand. X3 I'd say it was a great gift! Glad to hear you had a great day (hugs)

It was so incredibly fun. Thanks for suggesting it! We really, really ought to make this a thing. The energy you exude, it's exhilarating.
And don't pressure me, I'm still trying to get good with linework. I'm comparing myself to Alex Raymond or Roy Raymonde, and every bump in my linework looks a bit weak to me. You give me hope. (And I love your sense of color, it's grounding and so intelligent. You're a flatterer, you know that? *ellibulent face lick*)
