Star Catcher is my favorite character from the G3 My Little Pony. She is also a wonderful example of one of my favorite aspect of the arts. This being creative symbolism.
Take a look at Star Catcher's forehead. You'll notice a unique marking in which was likely intended to illustrate how she was more than the average Pegasus. Such use of markings is something I've personally enjoyed putting into my own works. Those who are now following the City of Solitude rewrite will notice a lot of this in the forthcoming chapters.
Just as a pose or facial expression can speak volumes beyond what may be illustrated so can uniquely designed markings on a character or their clothing.
It's wonderful how designs can cause us to think beyond what is initially presented in an image or scene. If I was more an artist than a writer I'd most definitely focus on details much like the unique marking on Star Catcher's forehead. Hopefully the works I write are just as capable of giving a sense of wonder to go beyond what I present to help make those characters I write about along with their world believable and imaginable beyond the confines of a particular tale I share.

Symbolism is a very effective tool in pop culture. Robocop symbolizes Jesus because he comes back from the dead and walks on water and Toy Story 3 symbolizes the Holocaust as they are abandoned and almost incinerated, but find a promise land.
My favorite types of Symbolism come from the Silent Hill series, where the monsters represent different things about the protagonist. Many of the Monsters in Silent Hill 3 represent abortion, like the Scraper. Theres also the Closer, a large creature with big club like arms that symbolizes shoppers. It's arms represent Shopping bags and it's twitching head represents "looking in all the windows".
I really like the G3 series, though many people disagree. My favorite episode is "Come Back Lily Lightly", about a Unicorn who is ashamed of her horn that lights up. I also enjoy the episodes with Spike.

I didn't know that about the creatures in Silent Hill. That is very fascinating. Goes to show how Silent Hill worked to show it wasn't just a Resident Evil clone.
There's a song from one of the more recent Silent Hill games a friend introduced me to that is actually now one of my most favorite. It is called Hell Frozen Rain. Have you heard it?
The G3 ponies are quite unique. I bought the DVD with the four shorts on it and liked them all. Particularly "Runaway Rainbow" where you hear Cathy Weseluck voicing Rarity. It's cute since she goes on to voice Spike who has a crush on Rarity in FiM. :)
I'm glad you enjoy the symbolism in works as well. I feel more attracted to works that can feel like they go beyond what is presented. I've had lots of thoughts about Star Catcher. Definitely an interesting pony.

Hehe aww, she's a very pretty pony! :D I never even noticed the mark on her forehead. It kinda reminds me of .hack how everyone had some kinda markings on their bodies that were different and unique from everyone. (: Kinda like cutie marks, actually! I guess she's got an extra special second one on her noggin.
I forgot about how different characters in .hack:// had different markings about them. Most in which I noticed were on the faces. Makes me feel up to giving the show another watch through.
Star Catcher is very different from other characters I've seen in Pony so far. She speaks as if she's more talking to your mind than genuinely speaking words. She also can do magic without being a unicorn. She has a very sweet voice and way of moving about, too. The marking on her head only adds to the intrigue in which is her character.
I just think it is super neat when you see special symbols in which don't necessarily interpret easy. Cutie Marks are pretty simple to figure out while the marking on Star Catcher requires more thought. Is it it a mark of enchantment? Who knows! :)

In my pony series, White Night's friendship mark paints the following picture:
It is a multicolor shield with a tall six-point star, and three hearts hover above it. The shape of the shield resembles the American Interstate shield (i.e., vaguely resembling a cursive lowercase "v" with a curvy three-point crown).
The shield has three colors -- in stripes that slant down from right to left (paralleling the upper right and lower left points of the star). From top to bottom, the colors are bright bluish cyan, cream, and brightish lightish golden orange.
The tall six-point star is lightish brightish pink-magenta. The three hearts are a deep bright purple.
I've been using White Night's friendship mark as my own avatar. It looks rather simple to look at -- but it is complicated to describe. As a puzzle, maybe you can figure out how this symbol is meant to be interpreted.
