I don't follow a huge number of Tumblrs but one of my favorites is "Ask Velvet" link which was created by Siansaar/ Carnifex link "The Crop" strikes me as the kind place Petina and Carousel would like to shop. So I recently asked if it would be okay to do a quick sketch of Velvet and I got an okay from the creator.
Also over the last couple months I've gotten several comments and notes from watchers asking if I might show how I went about sketching one of my characters. So I decided to kill two birds with one stone. Now this was a very quick sketch. From start to finish it took no more than 45 minutes and that includes stopping to scan the piece as it progressed. Also I actually put in some initial construction lines that I would usual not use, but I thought they'd be helpful for some folks to demonstrate what is going through my mind when I am doing a sketch.
At the same time I realized that I blew through a couple steps that I probably should've documented but forgot to. Which kind of annoyed me since one of my pet peeves with most step-by-step books is that they don't provide the reader with enough examples of how a piece comes into existence. However I made absolutely certain that I clearly showed the joints and very rudimentary bone lengths since they are critical to be able to draw to figure from any angle. Hopefully in the future I will be able to do some more detailed instructional style tutorials.
