Crimson Butterfly Book Cover
Crop of a book cover illustration for Kristen Holbrook, for her suspenseful book she is getting published! I did a full jacket wrap-around illustration, this is a crop of the front cover since it's the main image and the most interesting part. The back cover has a few of these butterflies (green comma butterflies) flitting about the edge and trailing a red mist behind them. What I loved about doing this piece was the design aspect of it, relying on shape and pattern more than brush strokes and texture. Then of course, I got to make butterfly wing texture super up close which was a blast! Please check out her blog and keep an eye out for when she publishes, this novel promises to be a VERY interesting read.

Katie,
This is Kristen! Ugh, I just wanted to thank you again for the STUNNING work on this piece. I really like the texture you used for the butterfly's wings--much different from your usual images of furry creatures! I get a cheesy grin on my face whenever I look at it.
Now I have to finish my book, because a book cover is nothing without the words inside it.
