And thus, the war ends. It's sudden, but destructive.... and all falls. Sorry bout the short length, but I wanted a quick ending to it. Something which no one expects. Thus, we rejoin our heros as they escape the underground city...
Amon’s thunderous footsteps shook the ground; but it wasn’t focused on us. It was focused on the ADF cruiser coming our way.
‘If we don’t get on that ship, we’re dead! They only way that ship would be here was if the Planet-Cracker had arrived as well!’ I shouted, running towards the cruiser. It was sending off copious amounts of smaller ships, all of them focusing fire on Amon.
We were almost struck by the front hull of a fight when it flew past, knocking snow high into the air. But it was shot down by a smaller projectile as it flew past- Amon had brought some friends with him.
The screeches of thousand of Demons echoed across the snowy plains, their roars drowning out all other noise. Where were they coming from...?
‘Hey! Save us!’ Maria shouted, waving her arms at some of the fighters. None stopped.
‘Forget it, Maria.’ Lewis said. ‘They have no room for us, why would they stop?’
'Some do, look!’ Maria replied, pointing out some of the larger craft that were waging war on the hordes. They were troop carriers, with plenty of room within each.
'She’s right.’ I commented. The first one of the Demons got close- I blew its head off with a well placed shell from the Revenge. 'They’ll come. Just hold on.’
Ships started crashing, explosions flashing on the horizon. Bodies flew.
'Enough!’ Amon roared, firing his energy blast in a wide swathe. Ships exploded one after another, rubble not even hitting the ground. The cruiser took the chance to fire its Ship-Buster at Amon, knocking him back. Amon responded with some of those telekinetic powers of his; he threw gigantic boulders at them, shaking the craft around.
A troop carrier craft landed next to us with a wolf in the back beckoning us in. We got on board and took off.
‘Glad to see you people are still alive!’ The wolf said. ‘We’ll get you to the cruiser shortly!’
‘I don’t know if the Cruiser will be there for much longer...’ I commented. Amon fired his beam again as I said that; right at the ship. It hit the front of the craft, vaporizing it slowly. Explosions racked the ship as it fell.
‘No, no, no! Not again!’ Lewis yelled.
‘We’re doomed, aren’t we? There’s no chance of survival...’ Maria commented.
‘We’ll make it. Trust me.’ I said. The cruiser collided with the ground, sending up a massive shockwave and plowing through the horde.
‘The general’s right. That cruiser should have sent out a distress signal; it’ll call for the other. We’ll get out of here.’ The wolf said.
‘Not with Amon around.’ I commented.
‘That’s his name? Well, can’t we outrun him?’
‘His legs may move slowly, but they’re larger than most skyscrapers. We need to kill him, now.’
‘But how?’ Maria asked.
I walked over to Maria and put my hand on her shoulder. ‘I’m afraid this is where I have to go. Someone has to distract that monster. Promise me you’ll survive.’
'There’s got to be another way...’ Lewis said. Maria was distraught.
'I’m the one he wants the most. If I can get onto his back, perhaps I can kill him. Here, take this...’ I said. I reluctantly handed her the Revenge. 'Take it back to Earth with you, find Natalie. Give it to her. She’ll know what happened.’
'I will... Good luck, Trevor. You’ll never be forgotten.’ Maria said. I pulled out the Bloody Talon.
'I hope not. Get us above that bastard, pilot!’ I yelled. The craft had several crates of supplies around; I took some. I strapped several dozen pounds of high potency plastic explosive to some belts and put those on. I also took the detonator.
We soon floated above Amon’s wide back. The craft quietly hummed up there, await my leap. I stood on the edge cautiously.
'Good luck, Trevor.’ Lewis said. I nodded in thanks, and then handed him my dogtags, along with the other tags I had found before. There were a messy pile of chains and metal, each one bearing a different name. Each one bearing all that remained of many men.
'Take care of them. If something has to be buried, it’s those.’ I said. 'See you in the next life.’
I jumped, saluting Lewis and Maria in the process. The wind whistled around me, making my tattered jacket flap behind. This was the second time I had sacrificed myself to save others. First time got me here, second time was to save the people who tried to rescue me. But we failed, and they had to flee. I’ll make sure they get out of here safely.
I landed on Amon’s hard back with a cloud of dust. The response was quick and merciless.
'Hero, time to die!’ Amon roared. Rocks started plummeting at me, shattering on Amon’s carapace. If he kept this up, he’ll kill himself.
I rolled out of the way of a massive boulder and then chucked one of the belts of explosives in a crack in his armor.
A crashed ADF fighter was thrown at me, knocking me away. I grabbed onto the side of Amon and climbed back up, battered.
'I won’t die to you...’ I muttered, dashing towards the crack where I had thrown the other explosives. A rock was thrown at me that was the size of a car- it bounced over. Another boulder the size of a dump truck smashed in front of me, actually staggering Amon.
'You’re a fool! You’ll kill yourself trying to get me!’ I roared. I slid the other explosives in with the first belt- the crack was on his neck; it may do serious damage.
'It would be worth it.’ Amon growled. I rolled out of the way of another boulder and then activated the detonator.
Amon’s roar shook the plains many miles away, halting all conflict, even if for just a moment. I had blown a gaping hole straight through the carapace and the flesh, to where I could see some of his spine. Blood was spewing everywhere.
'It’s not my time to die! It’s yours!’ I screamed, tearing away some of the flesh from Amon’s spine. He roared again and tried to shake me off, but I stabbed the Talon deep into the bone. I then twisted- the blade snapped but opened a hole. I could see purple nerves below, about as thick as a tree trunk.
I fired at it with the Talon, rapidly. Three shots severed it- the brain stem. Amon wobbled and started falling, so I took flight. I landed next to where Amon once stood, and was almost flattened by the shockwave that was created by Amon’s collapse. A huge cloud of snow was kicked up around me.
ADF had pulled away. No fighters were seen in the skies, no men fighting below. The Planet-Cracker was getting near.
I strode out of the cloud of powdered snow, Bloody Talon in my hand. I had fifteen shots left, after I reloaded. Three cartridges left.
Demons started charging at my position, their weapons held high. Hundreds ran at me; for they had no fear of the one that killed their leader.
'I WILL KILL YOU ALL!’ I roared, my voice full of the rage and fury of a million men. ADF had pulled back, and I was the only one left on the surface. My fate was sealed by the Planet-Cracker; I had no other choice but fight.
I fired rapidly, plowing down row after row with the Talon’s shots. Blood from Amon was pooling around my legs, washing away the snow and staining my boots. The whole place smelt like iron.
I fought, and I let the demon take control. It had tried to control me for years and years, and now I let it. Under one condition; that it kills the other demons. It agreed, silently; for it was a being of pure rage, of pure destruction. It didn’t care what it killed, as long as it killed. I was now a passenger in my own body, a prisoner to myself.
My body slammed down dozen after dozens of Beasts with its own fists, crushing each one with every swing. I suffered three bone spikes to the chest within seconds, but I didn’t even stop to tear them out. I kept fighting.
My mind started to relax as I thought; it was something else controlling me, after all. I watched the carnage delivered from my own body through my eyes, but it was like I was a small man standing behind the lens, watching it like it was some uber-violent movie. And my god, I was frightened.
My body gained ahold of a heavy metal hammer from a goliath- the weapon had a head made to torture, and must of weighted several hundred pounds. It was carried in one hand, crushing Beasts again and again. Blood flew everywhere, covering my body in it. And the demon... the devil within laughed. It laughed in the bloodshed, laughed in the total destruction of it all. Is this what I have avoided becoming for all of these years...?
A massive beam of red energy slammed down on the horizon, blasting a huge storm of snow towards my body. It kept fighting.
The snow was blown away, and the Beasts’ will to fight was dwindling. The energy beam on the horizon was still coming down... It had begun. The beginning of the end. The destruction of Hell itself.
My body swung the hammer at the ground, blasting stone and sand everywhere around it, sending bodies flying. Blood was raining down from the sky now, along with the debris. But the Beasts kept coming.
A Monolith fired all of its missiles at me, and my body took the brunt of every one. They did nothing. The devil was too strong, and the wounds it had received were seeping out hellfire. And that grin... oh god, that toothy, evil grin. A grin that a madman would bear, a man with his mind broken by endless horror.
The beam on the horizon increase in power suddenly, kicking up another shockwave. This time, cracks spider-webbed through the ground, blasting up debris. Demons staggered, some fell. My body didn’t even flinch- its lust for death wasn’t fulfilled.
The Monolith fired again; this time, my body was ready. I batted the rockets back with the hammer and then followed up with the Bloody Talon, shredding its body. My body kept on swinging, laughing all the way. I was drenched in blood; I could taste it, I could feel it under my scales. Gore stained my armor and my clothing, with bits of it hanging in stringy chunks. The hammer was dyed scarlet with the blood of Beasts.
Another shockwave shattered most of the ground under my body, turning the ground molten. I roared in rage, my feet burning up. The Beasts didn’t care about me now, and were burning to death.
My body strode towards a nearby rock, climbing onto the top of it. We could see the beam of the World-Cracker in the distance.
'...And so, we burn... Hahahahaha!’ My body cackled. Another shockwave shattered the land. I saw the mountains in the distance explode just before we perished.
And thus it ended, in darkness...
And thus the journey's over. After almost exactly three years of work, Snowblind's complete. It's been a fun journey, guys; but now it's time for it to be over. I'd be interested to see who kept along with it for the whole way, and I'll be putting out a full edition at some point.
Thanks, everyone.
