These are some of the fox statues I alluded to in my first Gojo Tenjin Shrine post. Like I said before, this shrine is to Inari, and foxes are Inari's messengers. You might notice they wear little scarves. Again, there is a shrine like this in Kyoto, and that shrine inspired Shigeru Miyamoto to make a fox the hero of what would become the game Star Fox in 1992. He even made sure to give Fox McCloud a scarf because of the scarves that these statues have.
