THAT is certainly seriously VICIOUS! An air elemental that survivies on devouring protiens from living creatures by stripping them down by the force of it's currents and as it breaks the victims down, it absorbs the liquids of both the fluids and the pulverized and dessicated organs..
*logically* all that should be left by the time its' done is dried, brittle bones... not even marrow should escape it..
freaking insanely FIENDISH of a creation.. * I LOVE IT! ( something incredibly NEW and dangerous for the useual dungeon crawl..
and the only time any creature might get a warning that it's there is when its' busy chewing away at something.. otherwise it's naturally invisible!!
Muahaha, yeah. I sort of imagine it being able to maybe break down the bones and stuff, too. Maybe it depends on how big/old it is?
Oddly enough, I don't really think of it as an air elemental persay, but more like either a kind of immaterial predatory energy-creature-thing that converts the organic matter of "prey" directly into energy for itself, or a sort of malevolent spirit that "eats" flesh and is the source of all those spooky "The man who went out into the fog and never returned"-type stories :b ... or maybe something in between?
Anyway, just really liked the concept, thought it was kind of scary and an unusual monster with a neat twist :) Everyone's scared of the horror they can't see!

*nods* Yeah, both are basically a sort of "deadly cloud-thing that will eat you". 'Cept this one, yeah, is completely invisible save for the stuff it kicks up as it moves/disintegrates stuff, and can go wherever it pleases day or night. I think the Vampiric Mist still sounds awesome, though - capitalizes on the strong obvious horror elements of the basic monster concept :b
Yeah, it was a clip in a documentary I watched a ways back. Like, I think the "Cold War" was still going on. As best I can tell, it's not online. The blast hit them and they went rolling. The first roll peeled the wool and skin off of them, the second roll they were sinew and skeleton, and on the third roll they were dust and gone. It made it's point very well. o.O
Hahaha, well, to be fair, I don't come up with most of the creature concepts - I only help in their development. However, I -did- come up with this one :b I'm fortunately in a position where if I come up with a particularly neat monster concept, I'm generally allowed to make it up myself.
Also, glad to hear it! I'm sure your players will be suitably dismayed XD

Thank you very much! Not sure if it's literally a wind, or an invisible flying monster, or a malevolent spirit of some sort. Just really liked the idea of something in the air that can't be seen that can just, like, disintegrate you - everyone's scared of what they can't see!
But yeah, I imagine magic would be the way to go :b or the classic "Hope you run faster than everyone else!"

Hahah that would be an interesting scenario for one of the games. Roll for trip ally chance and then run like hell.
I thought at first it was like a swarm of tiny insects, but this concept is so much better. Yes the fact it's completely invisible and that it just completely eviscerates something is truly horrific. Fear of the unknown is the most basic and primal fear, I can just imagine what sort of creature would look like that can reduce an entire animal the size of a gazelle into nothing at all in moments.

*nods* I can't remember the exact name, as there've been a few movies with similar titles, but... I think it was The Fog or The Mist or something? And basically this mysterious fog rolled in and horrific monsters appeared from out of it, and anyone who got caught in it got screwed one way or another :b I always really loved the concept of, like, deadly air. It's so inherently scary, air is everywhere!
Yeah The Mist from Stephen King's novel that became a movie. It's a terrifying concept for sure because it's just nowhere and anywhere at any moment and not much one can do about it. So many cool concepts and ideas that haven't been explored with antagonistic air or wind yet.
