A story featuring my friend
x-squared!
Robert loves playing video games, but when he gets dragged into the world of games he realizes that Bowser isn't as harmless as he seems...
I hope you all enjoy, I would love to hear what you think of the story! ^_^
Robert was messing around on his 3DS as he walked down the sidewalk, he had been anticipating the new Smash game and now that he had it he couldn’t bother to wait. Walking and playing the game proved to be a bit of a challenge, but he was able to pull through as he tripped on a crack and managed to land on his backside rather than smacking his 3DS to the ground. “Too close…” he sighed in relief, but he realized that a familiar sound was rushing to the ground. “Is that… the pipe sound…?” Rob asked, and his eyes expanded in shock as a large green tube ripped through the ground beneath him, and for a moment he looked up at the sky and tried to jump out before the earth inside of the tube vanished and he was sucked down into the depths of the pipes.
Now Robert had imagined going down the pipes before as being either a very fast, or very bumpy ride. He was shocked that it was neither as whenever he nearly hit a bend in the pipes the pipe somehow pulled his body in the perfect way to have him avoid the side, and though the speed he was going was fast, he wasn’t getting there anytime soon apparently. Though as he fell through the pipes he found the smell of the usually smoke filled air from cars was fading for a more fresh scent, and suddenly once more he heard the familiar pipe sound and he was deposited into some fresh grass. “Ouch…” he moaned, feeling his butt aching as he slowly stumbled to his feet.
“You! Get in line!” he heard someone scream, and turning around he blanched in fright as he saw a magikoopa from the Mario games floating before him. “Hmm… you’re not a koopa… though I guess I can fix you up, now fall in line!” he shouted, pointing his wand at the line of frightened looking koopas.
From the way the magikoopa brandished his wand and how all of the koopas flinched whenever he flicked it towards them Robert had a feeling that it’d be a bad idea to disobey, so he fell in line with the koopas who all seemed to be without shells and were in white shirts and shorts. Robert started to march with them, though he felt out of place as most of the koopas barely came up to his chest. “Excuse me…” he whispered to the koopa in front of him, the koopa looked up at him fearfully. “Why aren’t you all wearing shells?”
With a look of shame the koopa looked at his feet and Robert felt terrible as he watched the koopa shed a tear. “They… they took them… they said that we’d get the back once we go through the camp…”
“Camp?” Robert asked, ducking his head slightly as a magikoopa flew by with an evil glare. Marching in line with them were koopas with shells, and they seemed to have black irises unlike the koopas in line with Robert with colorful eyes. “What’s going on here. I thought all koopas worked with Bowser…” he muttered, and the koopa gave him a glare with such hate that he thought he might die.
“No! We koopas don’t volunteer to work for bowser. He… he took over the koopa kingdom… you see we used to have a kind king but… bowser was a jealous prince. The king’s first son was supposed to adopt the throne, but Bowser had always been bigger than his siblings, bigger than any koopa actually. He figured that he deserved the throne, so… he did some magic or something, and made the kingdom into his own,” the koopa explained, and Robert felt his heart break for the turtle creature who seemed downright miserable.
“So if the koopas don’t support Bowser, then why are all of those koopas working for him?” Robert asked, gesturing to the magikoopas and regular koopas.
The koopa first gave a glance of pity at the koopas walking beside them, and one of spite at the magikoopa. “The magikoopa joined Bowser of their own will, but the koopa…” he didn’t finish though, the magikoopa swooped in and stopped the line.
“You!” he shouted, pointing at the koopa that Robert had been speaking to. “Lord Bowser has decided you are to take on a special role, so step forward!” he commanded, and the koopa looked at Robert in fear before stepping forward shakily. The magikoopa shot a beam of magic at him, and the koopa vanished. “Off to see Lord Bowser,” the magikoopa chuckled, and he waved the line on. “Keep going to the camp!” For a moment Robert didn’t want to move as he looked where the koopa had been just moments before, and he bit his lip in pain as he hoped that the koopa was alright…

Hersh the koopa collapsed to the floor as he was teleported before Bowser, and was quickly picked up by two koopa. “Congratulations, young koopa. You have been chosen for an honorable position by me,” the king koopa announced, grinning as Hersh struggled to escape.
“You stole your position! You aren’t my king, and you never will be!” Hersh shouted, and though he tried he found that he couldn’t escape from the other koopas’ grasp. “You will be defeated!” he shouted, but Bowser wasn’t listening as he had learned to drown out the babble of the uneducated koopa.
Bowser had learned magics from a dark magikoopa which was how he had brainwashed his own father and siblings into becoming his butlers, and as he drew close to the struggling koopa he started to focus the magic. A black glow surrounded his claw as he approached, and a deep chuckle emenated from his throat. “You should feel so proud to be chosen.”
Knowing that it was almost over, Hersh closed his eyes as he started to chant. “Hail the Mushroom Kingdom! Hail the Mushroom Kingdom! Hail the Mushroom Kingdom! H…” Bowser touched his claw to the koopa’s head, and the change was immediate. The koopa started to shrink a bit, and his stomach started to swell as a new shell formed on his body. Three little hairs grew on his head, and new glasses appeared as his eyesight grew worse. “Hail, Lord Bowser!” Hersh cheered, he was so proud to have been chosen by his Lord Bowser to become a Lakitu. “My Lord Bowser, thank you so much for this honor!” the Lakitu said, he was finally released by the two Koopa and he bowed before his lord as his eyes became black just as the other Koopa.
Bowser chuckled as he watched the new Lakitu get led away to be linked up with a cloud, and already he saw that the Lakitu would be a very good servant. “It’s too bad about their eyes, but magic always has a price. It’s good that my Lakitu are so obedient.”

Stepping into the camp, Robert was still thinking about the Koopa that he’d never learned the name of as he was pushed through a tent. As he stepped inside the Koopa looked up and down him before nodding to himself, and he called in a magikoopa. The magikoopa took one of the shells they were handing out to each of the koopas and enchanted it before it grew to Roberts size, and pushed it towards Robert he threw his arms up so he wouldn’t get smacked but it phased right through his arms and he found it had settled on his body. “W… what the…?” he asked, seeing that he was now encased in a Koopa shell of his own size.
“Go on now!” the MagiKoopa said, gesturing for Robert to keep on moving. Robert felt embarrassed as he stumbled out of the tent with the giant shell encasing him, and he blinked as he saw the crowd of Koopa standing before him in a big wave before what looked to be a stage.
Nervous mumbles proved to Robert that none of the Koopa knew what happened now, and that didn’t make him feel comfortable… though now that he thought about it he didn’t feel comforotable for another reason… He was shrinking! The once short Koopa were becoming his own height as Robert found that his body was shrinking, the shell had been enchanted to make sure that anyone who wore it would in turn become a Koopa it seemed.
The other Koopa watched on in interest as Robert’s hair fell out, and his skin started to turn a bright yellow and his eyes started to expand. “This isn’t right!” he shouted, even his voice was becoming higher and lighter as he morphed into a Koopa. His shell started to feel less like a cage, and more like a home as his stomach swelled out and filled out the shell’s insides. Robert’s mouth rounded out and became a Koopa’s mouth instead as Bowser himself appeared on the stage at the front.
“My Koopa!” he announced, and all of the Koopa in the crowd started to boo at him as Robert struggled to stay the same, but it was hopeless as his knees practically faded away to become short yellow legs and his shoes morphed into tiny green ones instead. An adorable little tail grew out from his shell, and even though Rob felt frightened by the change he had to admit that the tail was cute. “You are gathered here today to become my next batch of recruits!” Bowser roared, grinning as he looked out on the hateful crowd.
Robert wobbled as he got used to his new chubby body, and he reached up to feel his face and blinked in surprise as he realized how chubby his cheeks were now. “Oh my god… I really am a Koopa…”
“Many of you shall raise through the ranks I’m sure! Some will become my Hammer throwers, and others Fire throwers! Perhaps one might become a Boom Boom!” Bowser shouted, the words were supposed to be impressive to the crowd, but all of the Koopas wanted to attack the supposed Koopa King. “Now all of my little Koopa, I’m sure you all wonder why I took your shells,” Bowser said, grinning as he saw the angry looks faded to confusion on the Koopas’ faces. “Well it’s quite simple. This new shell of yours is how I shall spread your new freedom!” he roared, and with a spark of black magic from the front of the crowd the Koopas shouted in terror as suddenly they felt Bowser’s influence flood their bodies and a cheer started.
“Hail… hail… Hail King Bowser!” the Koopas started cheering, their eyes becoming black as the spell started to rush through the ranks.
Though Robert couldn’t see what was happening he was still desperate to escape from this backwards world, and so he tried to push back through the tent where he came in, but a Boom Boom prevented him from leaving. “Let me out! I want to get out, I don’t want to be a Koopa anymore!”
The wave of magic spread like wildfire, and one minute a Koopa would be screaming his hatred, and the next he was praising his fantastic king Bowser. “Yes! Cheer for your King!” Bowser roared, and as Robert turned around he screamed as he saw the wave of black magic.
“No! I’m Robert, I’m not a Koopa, I’m a Hu… h… Hai… Hail King Bowser!” Rob the Koopa cheered, grinning as he joined in with his fellow Koopa. The crowd roared for their King as Bowser enjoyed the adulation, and his newest Lakitu recorded the whole thing with his camera.
Hersh grinned as he looked at his King, and Bowser looked straight into the camera. “This is the beginning of my reign as the new King of the Koopa Empire! Mario who once beat me shall fall, and so I don’t have to worry soon I will bring more races under my claw… one race at a time!”
