I've been experimenting with a new artistic style/process, where I make mixed-media portraits utilizing pretty much every skill I was taught in college and all of my favorite media (Super Sculpey and needle felting elements as sculpture, then watercolor and colored pencils because I like to live dangerously). So far I've been very successful, and this is one of my completed pieces.
Bloodhound Omega has been one of my inspirations and one of my favorite artists for a very long time now. What I love so much about Bloodi is that they always make art they are proud of and that they enjoy, and they never seem to cut corners or sell out just to make things easy. I admire that greatly, and wanted to thank Bloodi for all the years of enjoyable and inspiring art!
The piece itself is... Well, the background is exactly the same measurements as my swipe-card at work so the background is roughly 4 1/4 inches long by 3 1/2 inches tall - and with the swirly border it evens out to roughly 5x4 1/2-ish... The portrait sticks out a good three inches, so if we add in depth it isn't necessarily the smallest piece ever!
When I made this, I sculpted a background plate in sculpey and painted over it then made a border using glow in the dark sculpey. After the painting dried I needle felted the little Bloodi character, sculpted the details (eyes and Omega symbol), glued them on, then glued the character to the background. I didn't time myself for this, but I believe it took roughly 10-ish hours.
Soon this little sculpture will be on its way across the big pond to live with Bloodi and remind them that their imagination can spark great things in others :3
