Kevin Peralta isn't the Magmar he claims to be. He's actually the son of a well-known regional champion in Sinnoh, but was worried that this would result in him getting special treatment or unwanted attention. So, to keep that from happening he tells everyone he's from Saffron City and that his parents are both long-haul truck drivers (to explain why they never visit the school). So far it's worked, so much so that he's even ended up with the team name "Kanto".

Much like his father, Kevin prefers a fairly balanced mix of Fire and Fighting-type moves, with a couple of other surprises added in. When his former team broke up after a leadership dispute, his dramatic fighting style caught the attention of one Sally Russo, who flirted with him relentlessly and insisted that he join Team Touge (which she had just recently stolen control of). He thinks it's true love and often sides with Sally whenever arguments within the team arise, which is often. In reality, he's little more than a trophy for Sally to parade around and eventually toss aside once she gets bored with him.
