Cal-Berkeley's Oski bear at home game-9/27/2014, Pic 1/7
It comes at a shock that there are no pics of this cute bear mascot on FA until now!
This is the only good picture that I took of this anthro bear who is mascot of all the teams that the main university in the state of California's UC system (Athletic: http://www.calbears.com/ Academic: # As he is the wise and ever so happy grizzly bear that you see, he would still be a Golden Bear-official name of the athletic teams-thanks to his golden sweater that he wears. Yes, he would be the symbol of the now extinct in CA, grizzly bear.
To put into perspective on the sweater, since UC-Berkeley is a world-renowned university known for chemistry, physics, law, engineering, and business; is one of the most selective schools; and that there is indirect connection with Albert Einstein; Oski has his spirit that is as close to him as possible as the sweater is close to what Einstein wears, that many students would wear such a sweater from high school and university, and the sweater is for all ages. I could guess that Oski in age is between 35-45 years old and would fit well in that sweater. You do not see his hands- they are white-gloved. He does have his seriousness (wrinkles on brow) but also his genteelness as he is always happy.
Fun facts: this bear likes beer-he could drink it from a straw or tubing from his EYE! (I forgot which eye, though.) The name had come from a chant, "Oski-WOW-WOW!" It has nothing to do with the fight song of, or have any relation with the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, in which they say "OskEE-WOW-WOW!" (http://illinois.edu/ & http://www.fightingillini.com/)
He, of course, hates anyone from the near-impossible-to-enter private university southwest from there, Stanford (academic: http://www.stanford.edu/ athletic: http://www.gostanford.com/). In fact, he has fought the unofficial mascot of that school one time AT STANFORD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNMhCVjU6Fg (I love that-Hell, why a tree with legs and an ugly face as a mascot!? )
At the point where I took the pic, he was heading to the home team's (his) bench to cheer for the squad on the field, which later did score a touchdown and eventually won the game by a very close margin at Memorial Stadium-needed 2 overtimes to determine the winner-59 to 56 over Colorado University.
This mascot is from a Pacific-12 (Pac-12) Conference school. Look out for him when the football team visits your hometown or when the team in basketball (either gender) plays in the tournament of 68/64!
