Skills: most of his combat prowess comes from his sword, Cronos, which is self aware.
Volkner was chosen to wield Cronos against his will, and inadvertently was sucked into a whole bunch of events that threw his life almost completely off track. He's not entirely sure what's going on, but wants to see it through for the simple fact that things will hopefully go back to normal.
