Hey there guys! It's that time again for some new art. :) Continuing on with my Sly Cooper fan art tribute, I'm proud to present some fanart of the lovely, feisty, strong Carmelita Fox. :) I have to say, she was A LOT of fun to draw and I'm especially happy I went through with it. I do realize that I made a few mistakes like for one, I didn't add her hair band. When I was drawing her, I totally forgot that she wore her long her tied in the back but it was too late to change it. I still do think she turned out alright though. While she can be a big hot head at times, she's a staple character of the series i think. The only thing that always perplexed me is why they always felt they needed to change her voice in each game. Personally, I love voice actress in Sly 2 as she had that authoritative tone that matched her perfectly. Grey Delisle's performance in Thieves in Time would be my second choice, the only issue I had is how she always made her sound angry all the time lol.
I really do prefer her classic look over her new look in Thieves in Time. It's not because she was more scantily clad but it's just that her design looked a bit awkward considering the lline of work she does. It seems like it would be uncomfortable to do everything she does in a skirt and stiletto high heels... I mean... Cold weather = Brrr... and stiletto heels while running = ouch. O_< But hey, Carmelita is a strong woman so why not. I'm debating if I'll do some fan art of her new appearance so we'll see.
Anyway, I hope you all like how she turned out! :D Stay tuned for more work coming soon!

She looked like she was doing prostitute sting work to catch Johns. I agree that her new look from both a production design and fashion aspect were not great in Sly 4 (I got a crotch-shot in one instance of her climbing over a ledge). It just seems like she's nothing but a piece of fanservice in that game since they acknowledge in flashbacks that she used to wear pants yet that mini movie they made to tie into the game showed her in the same dynamic as before Sly faked amnesia but with the revised costume. Therefore I can't tell if it takes place some time after Sly is rescued from ancient Egypt or if it's contradicting that she ever wore pants and is before Sly 3...
However, I do like attempts to show her as more of a strong woman than just the misguided girl who doesn't realize she's wrong and should join the dark side with some cavalier anti-hero of a guy who barely skirts "jackass" as a description. They can't be together unless he gives up thieving (which is inherently impossible) or she throws away every moral she has to submit to the man's world so it seems like she's better off without him. This looks like a young, fresh Inspector Fox who's new to the game at the moment.
And if you do do a Sly 4 outfit for her, use the bellydancer outfit (preferably with the older character design) instead of the hooker clothes.

Haha your little summary of her outfit in Thieves in Time is pretty funny. Like I said, considering she is supposed to be a cop, her outfit just seems very inappropriate for the line of work she does. And no, I'm not trying to slut shame. Women can dress as they want but when it comes to situations like this like jobs, I'd rather have a design that is probable and works. I mean, I don't see any reason why they had to change her outfit completely because she already looked "sexy" in the her original look while being practical to a degree. Instead of a skirt, they could have gave her shorts if they really wanted for her to show more skin.
I'd love to see Carmelita and Sly work out but you bring up a good point. Thieving is a part of Sly's DNA so he's unlikely to ever give it up until he's old and decrepit so Carmelita may not be able to change his thieving ways.
Her belly dance outfit kind of rubbed me wrong too... That part seemed so... i don't know, I can't explain it.

I don't have a problem with choice but it seems more like they cared about fanservice than being logical especially since now she's pretty much wearing a bandeau bra instead of what she was wearing (which has been inconsistent with whether it has straps) and really seems more like it's her being nothing but fanservice for the prepubescent boys playing the game. Her bellydancing exemplifies this even more. It's one thing to make her have to do it since that's old school comedy when you need a distraction and you've got a chick on the team, but they dragged it out with loads of immature humor, especially from Sly (who suddenly started snarking with his dick in that scene), and made her nothing but the embarassed piece of meat for everyone to ogle rather than just be a moment of humility for the sake of it being against her character to be either girly or to not be some super-dignified ass-kicker. In fact, that outfit was more conservative than her revised attire since it's as if she took off the jacket on her original outfit. The briefing video actually has the original design seen in concept photos which would have been even more revealing.
Her original look was Sports-Sexy, which I find far more arousing, while the new one is cheap sexy and, despite the extra skin it shows here and there, I can't help but be reminded how wrong it is on her as an action cop. Frankly, even if she were off duty and decided to wear the new outfit (new design or classic), she'd just look like a street walker because that just looks like a prostitute's attire. Carmelita is more than that even if I'm just some pervy fur who likes a girl in revealing clothes and am just objectifying her as the babe. I can't help but want to protect her dignity.

I don't know, I guess it's just a touchy subject for a bunch of us fans when it came to how she was handled in this game. Don't get me wrong, I did like the game. It was nice that they got the original voices (minus Carmelita who always changes anyway), the overall theme of cartoon, and music. Usually when popular games get sold to third party developers, they meet a grim fate but Sly Cooper didn't really suffer that. If they do make a 5th game, let's hope they fix Carmelita and it would be nice if they ditched the cutscene style art they used (It just looked really distasteful in my opinion).
I'd prefer the older look myself as well. I felt there were a number of bad choices or misfires with the game.
Now Carmelita has always been a bit of a joke so far as she's stubborn and oblivious to the situation since she's the Javert to his Valjean (crude comparison, I know) and doesn't realize that he's working for the side of good just not the way she is. But now it seems like she's just a sex object.
And turning Penelope evil pissed me off.

Oh yes, I'm a fan of all kinds of games, especially platform games and now that I feel my drawing skills are at least semi decent, I decided it was time to draw some fan art of my favorite characters from games. I call it my fanart tribute project and I first started it with Crash Bandicoot, then Jak & Daxter, then Ratchet & Clank, then Spyro the Dragon, and now currently, Sly Cooper.
