My first, proper reference of Chris and Amy in their formal attire, based on a previous picture (NSFW).
Amy continues to get shorter (on her toes, no less), and Chris continues to get moodier... in the right way, of course! Marrying Amy has done wonders for his outlook on life.

Now that I'm no longer tailoring my characters for comic strips, I'm making honest-to-goodness character references again, like this picture.
Of course, sometimes I'm just stupid. There was one picture a while ago where I got their positions reversed and Amy was larger than Chris. I can't believe I actually finished that drawing instead of redoing it.

webkilla 's comment. Yes, I too greatly miss Backing Out. Presumably we were getting near to the point where Chris and Amy first met.

The first thing that had to happen was that Chris and Robert would patch up their friendship. Robert doesn't come off as an intelligent guy since he mangles words all the time and has some emotional issues, but is way smarter than he seems on the surface. Chris is one of the few people to recognize that.
Poor Robert. He's one of my oldest and more important characters, yet I never draw him because I was never satisfied with his design. I created my "new" style largely out of frustration of drawing raccoons and hating the way they looked in the BO style. I should go back to the style I used in the early 90's. It's crude and scribbly, but it always worked with my raccoons.
Being a teenage-themed comic, Chris and Amy meet pretty much as you'd expect, and it totally doesn't have to do with bumping into her humongous bosom. ;)

That was mostly because I was worried about having them talking side-by-side in a comic strip. Most of my characters really are supposed to be quite different in size, but I couldn't do that because it's way too easy to run out of room and keep the word balloons. Thankfully I'm a better artist these days... when I actually put in the effort.
