50 First (and Last) Dates (Part 2)
<< Part 1
Once AGAIN Ryuu gets carried away on a date and his kisses get way spiced up. Also once again this proves that you probably really shouldn't trust him even if he is supposedly comforting and nuzzling you. As if Ryuu's throat isn't long enough, he likes to swallow extra slow, so Glitch has a very loooonnng squirmy journey through those innards ahead of him!
On rare occasions Ryuu's dates have actually lasted a few nights, believe it or not. He does TRY to behave himself ;~;
2nd and final page of a commission for

Hehe, a bite-sized Glitch is an irresistible Glitch I believe~ Just one swift chomp and gulp~
Gotta love how dynamic you make uvulas as always >w< And Ryuu doesn't lose any time belching *giggles* Not even down in the stomach yet >:3 I imagine that's quite the air rushing past Glitch :3

I'm surprised Ryuu wasn't mean enough to belch right in Glitch's face in the 2nd panel, that's just the sort of thing he'd do ;) Ah well, Glitch'll just have to stick to being blasted in the throat, teehee.
Thanks man, I do enjoy having characters interact with uvulas and giving them motion :D

No problem Glitch, you were an absolute pleasure to work with. Thanks for choosing me to throw money at, and thanks for taking an interest in my sassy noodledragon...even if he does want to eat you. That's just his way of showing he loves you! At least you got spoiled with his normal big kisses and hugs too, right?
After much smooching, coil-hugging, sassing, showing off his hoard and getting his partner to decide what lipstick he should wear Ryuu did eventually spiral into that hungry predatory state we all know him for.
Thanks! I really am having fun drawing Ryuu again and again <3

Very pleased to hear that, I do try my best to make my work appealing to everyone. Also glad you're a fan of Ryuu, I'm somewhat obsessed with him - he's had some weird sort of hold on me since I started developing him more a couple years ago. Rest assured there's much more art of him on the way, much of it similar to the themes here ;)
Quite the amazing first impression I got when I saw this thumbnail in my inbox. The dominance of green, blue and purple told me straightaway that Ryuu was taking centre stage with this piece, just as I imagine he would do! I think you've responded amazingly to my comment on the in-maw shot of Enigma; the effect you've given the drool in its shine and that foggy, misty look makes it look and feel hot and sticky in there. If I can feel that sitting in my chair on an overcast day in the Midlands, I'm confident you've done it so right. Another thing about that drool: you've given it amazing physics. Each drip of the drool bulges at the bottom, as it should do and that's the motion pretty much sorted in these maw shots!
Your work with the expression in the second line of panels is really good. You've got a great knowledge of the skeletons of these species (especially with Ryuu where there isn't exactly living proof of an Eastern dragon's skeleton!) so that the expressions you give them work in both how their body can move and how the story progresses, especially in that fourth panel where Ryuu, I presume, has led Glitch into something of a false sense of security! It sure would have had me fooled had I not seen the rest of the comic! Actually, those two panels give a nice break before the climax of the piece. I think, honestly, this would be a lot more dull if it was just Glitch meeting Ryuu, Ryuu eating Glitch, the end. Those two panels which break up the action just so there's a definite introduction of things-to-be in the first part of this and an exciting climax at the end of this part!
Going back to that false sense of security and onto the third row of panels, you did so well in making the reader think that Ryuu wasn't going to eat Glitch after all, but in the next panel, nope, Ryuu is absolutely his normal self! Those who know Ryuu as a character may have seen it coming, but that's no bad thing; you've built up Ryuu's character and people like him immensely. He makes for a fantastic character to put in these sorts of stories and comics. On that fifth panel, I like how you've drawn in the effect of Ryuu bumping Glitch into the air with his nose. It ties together the previous and next slide so well where Ryuu is acting innocent to Glitch, then to Ryuu eating him. XD Of course, the maw shot is a welcome feature. I think fans of vore like maw shots because, as I see it, it foreshadows all the swallowing and the stomach and all sorts. For me at least, despite not being as big a vore fan as some of your watchers, I can look at a maw shot for a long time because of the crazy amount of attention to detail and accuracy of anatomy that goes into making a maw shot convincing and attracting. You've done so by including every feature: his teeth, the drool, the uvula. It all comes together to make a great entrance into the climax of the comic!
The next couple of panels are simple in terms of their content, but that's not to say that they're worse than any of the other panels! We see Ryuu closing his jaws around Glitch. We know it happened. How? Because that next panel shows Glitch in that position. It's another fantastic and fantastically detail angle of the the insides of Ryuu's mouth. You've given it texture (which I believed was impossible to do in a digital piece) with Glitch grabbing Ryuu's uvula and it's technically accurate for the same reasons as the previous panels of Ryuu's maw, i.e the drool and the apparent humidity in there.
Last two slides, typical Ryuu, I say! His kind of date, perhaps not Glitch's! For the umpteenth time, I'm pointing out your inclusion of sound effects. Where Ryuu swallows Glitch, I actually made that 'Glk' noise to see what it sounds like. That interaction, as you full well know, is what grabs me with these pieces, especially yours as you do it so well! And the last panel wraps it all up. Glitch won't be coming out anytime soon, I don't think! And Ryuu is pleased and that's what matters. :p
If I had a pound for every time I said how you excel yourself with every piece, I could probably buy a house. I know it's obvious, cliché, whatever, but how you still show signs of improving your work when you're as good as you are already is astonishing. Each time I see you draw something, I wonder "how on Earth can he do better?!" but guess what, you do better, every time. This comic was brilliantly written with a great storyline and a beautifully detailed comic as well. Big well done and congratulations for finishing such a big commission!

Aaaa Tene how do I even begin to thank you enough for this comment? I'm sure most artists would roll their eyes at seeing such a long comment (that's the impression I get whenever I leave a lengthy post on other artists' work...mainly 'popular' ones, surprise surprise), but without fail my face always brightens up when I see 'Tenebryocta has replied to your submission...' in my Inbox. I really must draw you some gifts because I appreciate your friendship and support so much.
In any case, yes I did take your critique from that Enigma maw piece on board, and I took it away with me and made sure to apply it here - gosh I'm pretty chuffed with the result. Some artists are bad at taking constructive criticism, whereas I welcome it because it helps me see where I'm slipping up or going wrong and then I can listen to advice and try to improve from there. That said, yes the inside of Ryuu's maw is indeed very humid, slimy and squishy and I really wanted to highlight that - I can't imagine it'd be pleasant for anyone inside though that depends on preference!
As usual, my love of descriptive sounds/onomatopoeia and little motion effects/effects in general is present here, as we've already discussed it just seems to add that much more life to scenes and really gets the viewer involved with the action.
I'll agree with you on panels 3 and 4, it definitely breaks up the scene nicely and I will admit I am a little tired of just "Dragon catches prey, puts them in mouth, gulp, END" whether it be myself drawing it or looking at other art. But then again that's one of many reasons why I just LOVE working with Ryuu, with his unpredictable (or predictable for us viewers haha), cunning, teasing nature. I swear he IS genuinely a good, kind dragon but these sort of actions just make him a very confusing case.
Finally, while the shading here isn't as advanced or 'pretty' as other things I've done in the past, I am happy to say I think I have improved a lot with this comic. Who knows where I'll be in a year's time? ....Besides in the innards of a predator!

To be honest, I'm usually nervous about leaving such comments. Lots of artists have resented me for leaving comments like that, even if they don't contain critique which I know is a bit of a delicate area for some people. I know you like seeing them, though, so I do my best to give you a comment which is worth the read, even if I tend to repeat myself a lot.
Yeah, going to critique, you're definitely an artist who'll take it and do something about it. It saddens me when artists don't take critique and respond with hostility when others try and help them get better. You've really shown a leap in improvement and I have to say, I'm very impressed. Not that I wasn't with the Enigma maw piece anyway; I loved that, you know why, but this piece takes it to another level, for sure.
I'm glad you agree with me about the storyline. I do think that vore-related comics are rather predictable with their 'predator meets prey, predator eats prey' storyline and any changes to the recipe always makes a better result. I do think Ryuu's personality is responsible for that, certainly. However, I'll only believe he's a good dragon if he doesn't try eating me. :p
Gosh, if you keep this up, you'll probably be drawing in the four-and-a-third-th dimension or something. I cannot wait, I say keep up the great work and never doubt your skill!
(I love the shading, by the way. It's very bold and gives the whole comic presence. I never really mention it because it's too obvious a thing to say in a comment. :p)

As tempting as that sounds, I could never ditch my dumbass, slobbery derp of a hyena. Enigma will always be the true representation of myself, be it his appearance or his somewhat...lacking intellect, it's all based on me. Come to think of it, I haven't actually submitted an Enigma pic for a while now! (His maw doesn't count haha). Besides, Ryuu is there to eat...I mean "kiss" Enigma anyway XD
Thanks though!
Thanks though!
Not a problem, that's why I usually don't draw anything graphic and just leave the fate of the prey up to the interpretation of the viewers. I myself am actually not a fan of fatal vore either, like I'll draw it (though not graphically) if a commissioner wants it but generally it does nothing for me.
In any case I'm happy you like Ryuu's alluring maw, green is indeed a striking colour!

Yeah, considering my character is almost just green and white. XP
I can understand that. Admittedly it has confused me on the appeal of death, but everyone has their preferences. I admit to really liking vore back in the day. I guess a part of me still kind of like it these days though. Guess while I'm here, on the first part, the sucking his head with that lip of his was strangely appealing. I do wonder if the whole black bottom lip is a thing though. Quite a few seem to sport that feature. :P
Glad I could make you happy. ^^

Oh the full black bottom lip is definitely a thing, and that should be clear from all the people who comment/swoon about it on most my Ryuu pictures haha. It's just a nice aesthetic thing too, I find my characters look 'wrong' without it (though other characters don't have the huge lip like this dragon...though as has been stated it's became a definitive staple of his design).
As for the death thing, eh everyone is different and that's what I love about this community - it's so diverse.

Ah, okay. Well I haven't looked at everything, but I've seen quite a few. I just got curious since I have seen other people's characters sport that black bottom lip. To be honest, I originally thought it was a smoking related thing, but I'm sure it's mostly just for looks. It definitely works on Ryuu though. XP
And yeah, that's true. I mean, of course you're going to have those naysayers, but they're the minority. ^^
