So, I need to practice humans. For various non-furry-related reasons. Since I needed to practice a variety of facial shapes anyway, I figured I'd have some fun with it, and try to humanize the 'Off the Beaten Path' cast. Something I've threatened to do on more than one occasion, I think.
Ransom and Puck ended up being the most challenging in the end, I think. Primarily because I wanted to nail the right ancestry for each of them. In the end I don't know how successful I was, but I tried.
It's a long way from where I want to be, but I feel like I made a few strides. I'm sorry if my interpretation doesn't fit the one you had in your head, but. . . after all, that would be impossible.
Anyway. It's always nerve-wracking for me to post humans here. Ugh.
Grant, at the very least, definitely ended up with 'bedroom eyes'. And dem freckles. I kind of want to color him, if only because redhead. . . . We'll see.
Oh, and Shivah has scars in this and not as a bobcat because here, she has no fur to cover them.

Wow, they are very... asian in cast. Moreso than the native american aspect I had (personally) been picturing them as; very Inuit if that's what you were aiming for.
Shivah very much suits her persona to me. Algonquin.
I would have envisioned Ransom as a more european cast; the classic 'mountain man' (dutch/germanic).

In the human Puck you can still see the spirit of a fox that tries to controll those around him as well as the totally grumpy Ransom that has so many past ghosts in his attic that they haunt his features.
With Shivah I stand with
karmakat that she is hit perfectly as the Picahontas with a lot more pride in her. Grant looks nice but his features are perhaps a little too innocent for his profession and what he already has seen.

That one will be a little hard to describe but I'll try.
The skin around his face a little darker (like with Ransom) to show that he has lost sleep in stressing about his failures in his mission.
And to show his hardships for having to care for his siblings slight dark lines across his face and neck to show the strain his body had to endure of all the hard work.
All those things would be hidden under his husky pelt but without the layer they would be there.
Hope this helps you understand what I think is missing in his portrait.

??? Grant is 23. The reason Ransom has darker lines throughout his face is because A. He has a darker skin tone than Grant, and B. He's older. I could see darker circles if Grant was losing sleep, but that would be a temporary condition, and I was drawing him in a happier moment, here. Permanent dark circles is usually due to a lot of nights without sleep, and I honestly don't see that for him. He may have grown up in a shitty place, but he specifically tried to take good care of himself to be a role model for his siblings.
I think you had a different idea in mind for the character than I did, but. . . that's unavoidable, really. He's supposed to be a clean-cut, handsome young guy, who HASN'T let his troubles affect the kind of person he grew up to be. The whole 'sunny disposition in the face of adversity' was kind of his whole thing.

I love it when you do this Rukis. Not an easy task, but I get the feeling you always have an idea in the back of your mind what your characters look like as humans, and it helps refine and define how you draw them as anthro. This sets you apart, IMHO, from the great majority of anthro artists. I still like the piece you did for what Luther and Amon would look like as humans.
Aaah, these are all lovely. Puck looks precious. There's something about his human expression that gets across the slightly... ... I hesitate to say sly..? attitude he has to some things much better than his usual foxy one does. Somehow.
Shivah looks beautiful. I love the defiant look in her eyes. Grant and Ransom are also very nice.
I think I like your human stuff almost as much as your aliens (which are my favourite, sue me). And your anthros, of course. c:

Shiva. I never imagined her as human but she looks great.
Ransom, well. That face absolutely talks about the character and personality.
Puck. Well. certainly not how I would imagine him as a human. Sort of young and the hair... idk. But you -surely- know more about the character, so I'll just enjoy seeing how you render him here ;)
And Grant. Well, sorry. I am a bit immune to men's "irresistiblesness" myself, so I'll let others give their opinion about how that came out.
Tecnically they all look good, but still Ransom is possibly the one I'd favourite. There is something in that face that tells an story of a life.

I love, love, LOVE when furry artists do this! :D Now I really want to see more... Luther, Delilah, Greyson... everybody!!! They all look spot-on compared to what I would have imagined (the exception being Shivah... it's completely illogical, but I was surprised she isn't blonde, haha). I never tried to picture them as humans, but they just FIT, somehow. Seeing them all as humans really draws out how YOUNG they are, and Grant especially look like an innocent kid. So sad. :(
