For the record, she was created by /v/ as what was supposed to be the main character of an indie game made by The Fine Young Capitalists, a group whose express purpose was helping aspiring women get into the gaming industry by raising money to get them together to make a game. Creating the main protag was the prize for donating a particular amount, and /v/'s users and GamerGaters donated a whopping $70 grand altogether.

Zoe Quinn got this whole thing shut down, claiming it was exploitation of women, accusing TFYC of transphobia, and basically worrying that she couldn't play the victim anymore if this succeeded.

No, Vivian was the character they got to create as a prize for donating such a huge amount. She was going to be the game's main protag, and designing the protag was the donation incentive for the amount they contributed.
