I needed to put some texture on the glass so I could repair it. Since I was going to have to be using the sandblaster anyway, I figured "why not make it nifty?"

Nope, this was a glass I bought, but it broke (the stem came off) so I had to repair it. Texture is helpful when repairing things, because it gives more surface area for the adhesive (or solder) to adhere to. I could have just roughed it and left it at that, but this was more fun.
