In case anyone was curious about what kind of demented art I did pre-furry fandom, here's an example. Not going to give a date, except that it was post-high school. The mall is (was) an actual shopping mall close by where I lived. It still exists in a different form (turned into some kind of outdoor mini-mall, I think.) In order to get the mall right I went on-site and drew it from a nearby field, so the mall is pretty spot-on accurate. I wasn't so great with the cars, but cars still aren't my strong point. I've just learned how to cheat them better.
The original of this is very large, so it had to be pieced together from scans. All done in watercolor.

It's because the outside world is SCAAWWWY and you never know what kind of monster or freak could be looking into your windows on you and your family any nanosecond of the day or night! Twenty solid years of victim porn and true crime shit, fed to Americans via our pop "news" media have made Americans scared of their own shadow. Ever notice these modern Christian evangelical churches? Even the ones not made of former sports arenas? No exterior windows. Stained glass or otherwise. No sunlight reaches the sanctuary or main worship area. They're made like above-ground bunkers, mirroring the mentality of the ones who go run and hide therein.
And indeed, a lot of new homes have smallish windows, too. In some new homes, the only window in the main living area can be the glass sliding doors to the back yard.

Well, OLD urban architecture has lots of narrow (and tallish) windows for the sake of pre-air-conditioning comfort: taller windows and higher ceilings to allow hot air to rise away from people, and then of-course narrow openings to the outside to minimize heat loss during the winter. Nowadays, I'm told that it's cheaper to go with smaller windows on new buildings, because apparently cutting window casings out of solid walls costs extra now. There are some new-built, low-end rental properties around where I live, where even the windows for the living room are kitchen-window size.
New urban architecture has lots of glass walls, but not too many actual windows.

My grade school and high school were built in the late 50s-early 60s and were very airy in their design and layout. The classrooms had wall-to-wall windows, that inside rose from counter-height to the ceiling. I have seen other schools from the same period, where most-all those windows were covered over, leaving only a cursory pane to let in a sliver of light. A new-built elementary school in a nearby city (new-built as in around fifteen years ago) has nothing but tiny, horizontal slot-windows on it. The place looks very-much like a prison.
My junior-high building (from the 70s) was of blatant Brutalist design, with only two vertical slot windows at the outside corners of each room.

This reminds me of a dream I had once...where I had to take control of a tornado to steer it away from a shopping mall...
...I have weird dreams. Often involving tornados for some strange reason. And no, it has nothing to do with my username. Just a weird coincidence. I think...
