DfD: "...Didn't Sabrina Online do this already?" 2/3
DEAR LORD ME.
This took forever to do, and I most sincerely apologise to
NathanCowan for the wait, part two of that prior comic waaaay back now...
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13959416/
And Shad and Jazz are inside the convention, I struggled a lot with this one, trying to balance script and setting, trying to find a way to make it all fit together felt really awkward, then I kind of realised my speech bubbles in part one, I adopted them, but had always just quoted my speech previously
Sooooooo, to try and ease it, I went and returned to form here, not sure it worked out that well, but, at least we're able to SEE the two characters in this pic now XP DAMNED if I'll ever figure out Alex Milne does this with James Roberts' writing
Anyhow!
Some small heart to heart and blunt objects to head and all...
Really, what DID you guys see happening anyhow?
A surprise to be in store for part 3... don't know if I have a LEAK here or not...
...
Urf, I need to never try a comic commission ever again, lol
I only heartily apologise for wait and whether or not it's even worth the wait at this rate XD

I think this is coming out great, and there's no deadline worries.
I've always liked your take on the characters - it seems "right" to me even if the Rule of Funny needs to be invoked once in a while.
The "I can see eye to eye" line is ambiguous - from the way it's layed out it might be Shadow's line or the guy in the background.
Shadow's an interesting character to write and I think the medium and focus has a big effect on that. The Foxforce novels were written partly to experiment with long narratives told from one point of view, so in Shadowfox we're seeing everything from Shadow's perspective while in the others we're outside looking in. This gets interesting with her because she's such an intrinsically deceptive character. The first and second panel make it pretty clear she's genuinely intrigued by the robot she's looking at, while her dialog is a lot more ambiguous.
Now I'm really looking forward to Part 3. Will Jazz end it in a hospital bed? We'll see, but I have my suspicions...

Deadline or no, it's the stagnation in between working on this that really stings, I'd like to see this wrapped up for you =B
As for the rule of funny? I consider credulity to be like a bra strap, you want a good bit of flexibility, but God help you if you snap it! I hope I've adhered enough to that, lol
Although, yes, my experimentation with the speech really didn't pull off as well as hoped, the two gawkers in the background were literally there just to comment on how Shad has her own following that she could probably expect to be recognised in a crowded collection of folks, you'll see that any human character in this or the prior page has their face obscured, either the kid with the mask, the mother with her back turned, or the guys there with vague details only, much like how you never got to see Jasmine's boss in her 'original' appearance
As for Shadow, she really does exist as a multifaceted character, there's a lot of her I'd have wanted to put into this page that just couldn't find room, having to condense it to even this amount of text was hard, but I did want to make sure that I continued Shad's appreciation for characters of fiction with animalistic faces such as Silverbolt here - and this is where the Sabrina Online reference came in - what with his wolf muzzle/face

It's not without reason that Shadow's face is off panel when she presses Jasmine earnestly about why she's held back, I did want that ambiguity about not seeing her expression whilst speaking her mind there
Hopefully Part 3 will be sooner than hoped!

I think so. I'm thinking specifically of the one where Firefox goes gunning for the person who sniped her in an online game. She wouldn't do that, but it's hilarious. Rule of Funny.
> the two gawkers in the background were literally there just to comment on how Shad has her own following that she could probably expect to be recognised in a crowded collection of folks
It works very well. It's interesting that Shadows's badge indicates she's there "as" Ebony; it would be interesting to see how Jazz reacts to that. It could go a couple of ways, and "Look who I'm sharing a room with! Squee!" might be on the table.
Nice stuff and I'm looking forward to Part 3.

I'm particularly interested in Jazz' sense of vulnerability. Being a chimera with her disability in that society must be objectively frightening. I played a bit with that with Technofox in the elevator scene in Technofox but seeing it in another character's interesting.
Jazz would probably like Fire's confidence, and Silver's Devil-may-care attitude.

Lessee, twice the comments, twice the content to reply, lol
Dear lord I'd forgotten about the console wars, back then Ortinbras still had cameos, lol, that WAS a ways back, back before Chimera Jasmine even came to be a thing! Well, I guess I am guilty of that beaten path after all mayhap... >>
Was wondering if anyone would pick up on Shadow and Jasmine's tags by the by, I thought it was fun to play with that idea of identities, and if you notice back in page one, I believe I put up a sign on the convention wall directing 'chipped' and 'non-chipped' entrants, just those little things~
As far as Jasmine's perspective as a vulnerable Chimera of sorts, the girl does put on a bravado of sorts around others, but the mask does slip once or twice on her own insecurities, in cases like this she'll slip into some self-depreciating humor to try and brush things off
One of her biggest downfalls is she has a comfort zone, and I think it's hard for her to exit that, which I think is something I had Shadow pick up on and try to nudge the poor girl in the right direction
It would be interesting to see some situations she could end up in and how she would react though I have to say...

Well, still funny.

I hadn't noticed, but going back I can see it.
I could see a chimera working herself into a dudgeon, giving an impromptu speech on Jim Crow and forcing chimerae to take a less privileged entrance, with a con person saying,
"Ma'am, we only have one chip scanner."
"...Oh."

Yeah, I could certainly see that being an issue for a reporter. I imagine most of her work is done with a computer and she only rarely gets face to face with people. And then mostly when electronic contact is out of the question.

Always good to get out of the house...
>It would be interesting to see some situations she could end up in and how she would react though I have to say...
Right. While the bulk of her work (like a real reporter's) isn't risky, and likely focuses on local news which is likely safe, however neat ("Mythbusters come to town to build boat from ice!") action stories would tend to be about heightened risk situations. It's not like there aren't plenty of stories with reporters. Did Kolchak live in vain?
