Had a bit of a mishap at work yesterday. IRL. As many of you know, Im a graphic designer, and one of the things we do day-in and day-out is cropping hard-copy documents and such like that. We use a very sharp xacto knife for this. So, cuts and nicks on the fingers are a common hazard of the occupation. Yesterday, I slipped very badly with the knife and nearly took off a chunk of my finger next to the nail from the tip down to the first joint. Avoided cutting the section off completely only by a couple of millimeters. Loud cursing and spurting blood ensued.
Ended up spending most of the afternoon at the workers comp clinic and now my left index finger looks like a chicken drumstick. Makes typing quite difficult I must say. :P No stitches (you really can't put stitches in that particular area cause they'd just pull out), but tetanus shot (which I'm mildly allergic to, yay swelling and pain for days!), antibiotics, and good bandaging should take care of it and I shouldn't lose the tip.
So, yeah, yesterday kinda sucked, and I decided to draw Brock in the same situation last night as a vent. Luckily, I'm right handed so it doesn't effect my drawing at all (because I'm right handed I very rarely cut my right hand badly like this) and I'm pretty much fully functional if uncomfortable.

quick get me a booboo kit and 1000 cc's of cookies stat we'll fix this cubs finger fast. *puts on doctor hat with the little reflective disc on the front.*
on a side note i've had a couple finger mishaps myself. at about 4-5 I slices open my right pinky on the palm side of the hand so bad i needed stitches and a tetnus shot (did it on a rusted barbwire fence) and at that age i was about...45-50 lbs...little chunky but not too bad. and I was kicking the nurse who was trying to hold me down (who is my size now) across the room. for perspective purposes think of it like little brock here kicking a full size bull walrus across a room...she got me to stop fighting with only one sentence. "We need to get Hulk Hogan in here stat." man was i pissed with her for saying it because he was my hero at the time and when i didn't get to meet him i was very pissed...or would that be heartbroken....meh either way. so i know the pain man. i had one worse finger damage where i almost lost the feeling in it totally on the right side of it. this time right pinky...fluffy guys, high school, fatigue from long nights studying for exams, and oreos with milk is a recipie for disaster...had 22 stiches that time whereas the left pinky was only 18...oh well at least they stayed with an even number :P

Heh. Wasn't too bad at the time, and it really didn't hurt that much, must have missed all the nerves there or I have a lot of scar tissue in that area. Lots of blood, but that doesn't really bother me much. Worse though is the tetanus shot. I'm mildly allergic to them, and the resulting swelling and pain last quite a while.

I know the feeling o.o' I cut open my index finger right down to the bone at work with a sliding microtome, missing the tendon by about 2mm. My finger looked about the same afterwards.
On the positive side ... clean cuts with hyper sharp knifes will heal nicely.
