Known as the Culver in southeast England, the Common Wood Pigeon lives throughout Europe and western Asia. They are considered a pest in some rural areas and as such are sometimes shot despite otherwise being quite tame.

They're very visible and entertaining getting up to antics, whether they're courting, fighting, mating or doing their display flight where they swoop up, give a couple of wing-claps on the apex and then swoosh down gracefully. They're also uncommonly easy to spot when roosting at night thanks to their size and lightly-coloured undersides.
Despite their size I've only really seen them be aggressive towards others of their kind. They often have little fights that revolve around fluttering at each other and harmless wing slaps (that make an impressive crack sound).
