Erdus buy itself is nothing but a mere lock however when in possession of the key to the pair both the key and lock retain magical powers.

Erdus, with assistance of the key, can become a portal or "gateway" to escape or send foes to alternate dimensions. The key in "gate" mode requires only one hand to use and can easily be carried however, while in "battle" mode the lock is expanded and requires two hands to carry and/or use in combat.
