i'm going to make this sound purposefully awkward, because then it'll ironically sound less awkward than it would have done...
here is the "fox born blue" in all his beauty;
Borny
i wrote this three days after i first met borny fox, and was introduced to his suit... i -think- it was his first outing in it but i could be wrong about that. this isn't some kind of swooning love ballad intended to entice borny to be my romantic partner for life or anything... err... not that borny isn't worth been swun... swooned? ... fuck
so yeah... a fox born blue. it seems as though the photo i used as an icon was taken by him, so i won't credit anyone other than him (??)
mike sands - alto and composition
ienne hunter - guitar
phil antonia - bass
side note... i think this is probably the best example of my playing that there ever has been. i'm extremely happy with this specific take

Cool, makes me feel like i'm in a dark, smoky jazz bar. The bass seemed to be really low in the mix, but i'm listening to this on a tablet...
I've always wondered how these songs get written. Is it all improved, are the chords progressions plotted out, or is everything written out?

thanks for the comment! ... on my rubbishy asda speakers the bass is a tough too low but then on my great headphones the bass is too loud, so i'm kinda torn between two worlds and bass volume is a perpetual problem with my mixing. i'll work on it. :)
in terms of how it's written, i gave the other two musicians a lead sheet of the tune, the melody written out with the chords written in symbols over the top. the bass intro was improvised over the first chord (E∆) we play that from 19" through till 1'25" with those guys improvising the backings. from then on, we run through the chords of the melody, improvising through them. then at the end the sax comes back in with the melody.
it's called head arrangement, if you listen to jazz music from it's beginnings in the 1910s through until about 1950, it'll almost certainly be a head arrangement.
hope this helped :) ... if you're interested i could do a scan of the lead sheet and send it you

yeah, that would be cool. I'm always interested to learn about new music.
I'm a guitar player, but a metalhead. Most the music i played is mapped out note for note. Even the solos. That's why i find interesting that a group a musicians can improv and stay headed in the dame direction.

once you surround yourself in a system which has basically remained unchanged since the 1910s, then it gets drilled into you pretty quickly... nowadays i find it amazing to think that people can't follow it, but i know it's true.
i'll message you a lead sheet tomorrow... feeling kinda ill atm so any work is just wiluaghez/lrjgnf
