One of the most populous birds of North America, the Mourning Dove is heavily hunted for its meat and for sport, yet still manages to retain it’s large numbers due to raising many broods each year. They are monogamous breeders and will continue to remain with a partner until one dies. Additionally, they are closely related to the extinct passenger pigeon, and are thought to be able to help bring them back from extinction via cloning.
