I'm always glad when an old fire truck gets a new lease on life, that helps it avoid the scrap heap. However sometimes they end up being used as a cheap advertising stunt.
Seeing what was once the pride of a small town FD's fleet, reduced to a life as a billboard is like seeing your childhood hero reduced to hocking incontinence products on late night television.

Yeah... I actually like the old smaller engines like this..... I think we keep going down the road of "bigger is better" with our rigs, as we keep building these new dam Taj Mahal trucks. Then we can't figure out why we can't get down small sides streets when there's an emergency.
I'd like to see me FD buy one of the F-550 mini pumpers with about 400 gallons, a CAFS system and 1000 gpm Q-pack pump. Plus just enough gear to pass an ISO inspection, and nothing more. Every truck in the fleet doesn't need to be a full blown rescue pumper.

I really agreee with you on this, we used to have a 9' high set of doors as a restriction
on trucks, to fit the station, with the build of new stations the trucks are getting stupidly
tall, how the hell do you get the hard suctions down. and damned near need a harness
to repack the hose bed.
F550 or even an international low profile chassis, mostly for air brakes over the 550, back
to basics is a good idea. Recently converted an old 4x4 ambulance into a forestry, crazy!
for what was spent they could have purchased two or three 1 year old F350's and equipped
them with the sale of the ambulance.
