Ok, so we made dinner the other night. salisbury steaks, steamed broccoli, and baked russet potatos.
well, they've been sitting in the fridge glaring at me. and...by now the meat was likely drying out, and all, but it wasn't bad. so...I'm hungry tonight, and figuring what to do with them, and inspiration strikes!
I take a sautee pan, fill the bottom with oil, season it with CRP, lots of dried onion flakes, and salt. letting the spices...awaken in the oil, for a minute or two, before adding the flour, to make a sort of a roux. before adding enough water to make a sauce [note on making roux sauces like bechamels, always keep adding more till it's THINNER than you want it, because it WILL thicken further both as it cooks, and will "Set up" like a gel as it cools. so "oversteer]
anyway, plunk the meat in, after cubing it up, and let that simmer gently for a while. I figure the gravy will soften, and hydrate the meat, soften it up a bit, [could have used easily an HOUR of "softening" but I gave it a little while, meanwhile I scraped the skin off of the potatos, crumbled them into a bowl, and warmed in the microwave.
once I figured the meat was doable, I added a can of corn, stirred it in, and served the "puke like" mixture over the taters.
ok, I'll admit, it's not the yummiest thing ever, and I don't give a crap if you make this. granted, i"m SURE fresh ingredients, vs barely safe leftovers, will be a no contest on flavor handicapping. but that's not the point. this is taking scraps, and making something out of them. this is pure creativity. and I'm using my example as inspiration. not as a "here's a cool recipe you should totally try!" but I want you all to get your minds working to THINK. to take a few ingredients, that you NEED to use...and...finding some idea that works. good luck! oh, and if you do, end up with left overs, and you make something from them OR you've got that... that can of frozen mixed veggies that tastes bleh...and has been sitting in the freezer too long, or WHAT EVER and you make up something to use it in....link me, I'd love to see other people's ingenuity!
